Post This Forum is being Upgraded/Changed....

I've been kind'a quiet on the Luger Forum as of late - but, from the donations received, I've made the plunge and invested in new backend Forum software for the LugerForum. So, most of my spare time lately has been spent behind the keyboard. The new Forum software has a huge set of new features - for example - photo uploads right from your computer into a post; spell check, e-mail notification of replies to posts, a pop-up when you have a new PM,the ability to search across all forums in a single search, searchable archives from the P 38 Forum, the PP & PPK/S Forums, etc.

So - when the time comes, and I'm done hacking the core codes - I'll have to close off this Forum for a few hours (I'll warn you before hand), so that posts aren't lost during the transition. As well, I'm trying to include your "Private Messages" into the change over, but that's not really working so far. I'm working on it and a bunch of other things....

Now - if you like all the new features - thank those few who have supported this site, for without them - the cost of the software & conversion would be somewhat personally prohibitive - so to all, my thanks!!!

I'll keep you posted on this transition as it get closer...!

You are on!!! There is an earlier version of my test software still on-line.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Go here:

http://pcf.lugerforum.com/forums/

And scroll down to the "P 38 Test Discussion Forum" (you'll see a test post by Ed there). You can try an upload without having to Login in that specific P 38 Forum....

John D.

Looking forward to the changeover...when you get a minute, Could you send me the URL and the login for the new forum software control panel via Private Message or email so I can explore the user interface before you go live on the new format? I would like to be up to speed on how it works before you turn the O-N/O-F-F switch to the O-N postition .

Thanks,

John S

Well, like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. Tried the thingee and got the same old "This Page Cannot, Will Not and is Absolutely Forbidden to be displayed to your eyes" message that I have come to both know and love since I first tried to post here many years ago. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />
Maybe replacing the smoke bearing in the framus on my motherboard is the reason why. BTSOOM.

OK - cool... NOW - you are that far.....

I do NOT want you to hit "Upload Photo"! Rather....

1) Open the main Forum page as you did above....

2) Scroll down to the "P 38 Test Discussion Forum" - its about 3/4 of the way down - and open that Forum - just like you do here...

3) Select the "NEW TOPIC" icon at the top of the page... (looks like this:

4) Enter any name - like "Tom" and any e-mail address - and type a Title and post (like testing - Testing)

5) Under where you typed your post, you will see Attach File: with a Browse button.... Click the Browse button - and upload your pic....

It'll work.... Promise..!!!

John,
I 's'pect the problem is rooted in AOL, as my ISP. I realize that AOL is the anti-Christ, but the way I move around, I need an ISP I can get to from anywhere. Thus far, AOL is the best at that (accessible from Warsaw, Ankara and some other locations I am not at liberty to mention).
So whatcha' reccomen' we do 'bout dis?

Seriously..???

I don't think it's AOL... Honestly - I think you have a pop-up stopper or ICS or firewall that has been installed that has a work around, but it's tough to find/trace..??? I don't mean that as a "dis" at all - as you have no idea what I deal with in the other forums where there are about 100,000+ folks who have difficulty with a system.

So - here is an offer - in all seriousness....

If you send me your laptop overnight - I'll fix you up - and send it back "same day" - and then tell you what it was/is. As well - if you want to try another dial-up - I can do that too, into my back-end network - but, it's a LD call for you to give it a try..???

Seriously - you are what collecting is all about - so I'll do whatever it takes. You let me know, OK???

John,

My laptop has a great deal of very sensitive information from my clients and my own businesses. Turning it over to a third party, even someone as highly esteemed as your personal self is simply out of the question as it would violate the confidentially agreements I have with my clients. Removing the data is not an option due to time and storage constraints.

I have no problem with a few long distance toll calls..jeezie-peezie, money is easy, making this bad boy work to post pictures is far too hard. Tell me how to get into your system.

Absolutely understand... I would have the same problem sending mine off....

Anyway - want to e-mail me, with your phone number and a good time to call you this week? Maybe we can try a few things over the phone, OK? As well - I'll give you access to my dial-ups during that conversation....

Best to you Tom..!

Tom, I think your laptop needs to be configured, in person.

I think that John should try over the phone, but I bet this is one of those 1-hour vs 40 hour do-hickeys. We could fix it in an hour in person, but not in person over the phone will take 40 hours.

I think you should take a weekend and fly "through" NH and visit with John.

The best way to see if it is AOL is to get with a local ISP for a 3-month membership and test it out.

However, I think the major reason is that your pictures are over 180 kilobytes. Have you ever tried posting in the Member Gallery? You literally point to where the 8 pictures are and then hit upload and it just does it for you. I think you already have a user name, if not then John could make you one.

If you want to try the size bit, I have e-mailed you a picture that is less than 100 kilobytes, try saving the attachment to your hard drive c:\ and then try uploading it back to the forum. It will be one of your piccies, so it'll look familiar.

If you are tired of this stupid game then take a break, we don't mind helping you out, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Hello Guys,
I just finish to have a look at the new Forum, and it seems very good.
Only a few remarks:
1) I was not able to find the link "Link & Resources"
2) The Sponsor and Donate link are still not active.

Well done.
Ciao
Mauro

Hi Mauro..!

My thanks for the feedback, as it is "work in progress".. For that, the link pages will be the last to be programmed, and in fact - on my workstation - I'm working on the next Beta for all to take a look at. This new code has some better features as well, including:

- Automatic image resizing;

- Multiple attachments per post (up to 15 images that can be uploaded right from your computer);

- A slightly different layout - which is cleaner the the current BETA code;

- Calendar option that works;

- a different "Subscribe to a thread" implementation- so even if you do not participate, you can still have e-mail notices;

- A daily combined e-mail notice that will give you "Daily Updates" to any threads that have been posted to - so you would get only one e-mail instead of "many" with the new posts to threads you are interested in;

- A way to "manage" your attachments, even if you had many within several posts, you can change and edit photos - even if they are posted in previous threads;

- Personal Profiles that will allow you to use a picture and description - rather then simply a "profile" that you see now;

- Of course - spell check, and some of the advanced features you see now in the current BETA code will still be retained - or improved.

I hope to allow folks to see what I am working on for the next BETA in the next day - and again, will invite your feedback....

My thanks to you again!

I just turned on my workstation to a public IP address, so if you want to see the next BETA, just click here (PLEASE REMEMBER - IT IS work in progress - and the code resides off a server!!!) Have fun...

John, I found that when you went to the forum of choice, you must hit the back button, while here on this forum I can click on the Luger Discussion Forums and go to the main page.
