Default Artillery sight problems

Greetings,
Can anyone shed any light on why the adjustable sight on a artillery will not lock into place. When the button is depressed, the sight will move up and down but will not lock into place. There is good spring action on the button, so I don't think it is a spring issue. Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I would hazard a guess that the tips of the locking indentations are worn or snapped off. I have a C96 Broomhandle tangent rear sight with the same problem.

Well, I answered my own question. I removed the sight and disassembled it. At first I noticed nothing wrong, so I removed the sight from another artillery. Well Rich (postino) was right. The small pin that latches into the notched slide was broken off at the tip. Fortunately I have a very good friend and fellow forum member who is a master jewler. He said he can weld the tip back. Thank you Mike,

Mike
