Post LUGER I.D

I HAVE A LUGER I AM TRYING TO I.D...IT HAS 1917 STAMPED ON THE BARREL..APPEARS TO BE A 9MM AND HAS THE DWM INSIGNA ON THE TOP...IT HAS KNURLED WOOD GRIPS, AND A STOCK LUG..THERE ARE SOME MARKINGS ON THE GUN THAT APPEAR TO BE AN EAGLE OVER A "T"....ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT...THANKS

You have what is apparently a standard military issue Luger made in 1917 by "DeutchWaffen und Munitionsfabriken", or DWM as stamped on the forward toggle joint. Translated, the name means German Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers.

The grips are considered to be checkered. The serial number should appear on the front of the frame and will likely have a small case letter under the number. The letter is a suffix and part of the serial number. The serial number, sans the suffix letter, will also be on the left forward side of the receiver. Other small parts will have the last two digits of the serial number stamped on them. They should all match. Most magazines will not match the serial number of the gun. If it does, you are fortunate.

The Eagle over "T" stamp has me curious. Can you post a picture of it or at least describe it more completely and state precisely where on the gun it's stamped?

THANKS FOR THE INFO....I WILL POST SOME PICS AS SOON AS I GET HOME TONIGHT....I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE GUN SO YOUR INFO IF VERY HELPFUL...

i am having a little trouble posting pics, somebody seems to have borrowed my camera..i will post them as soon as i can..i looked at it again last night, both clips match the # on the gun as well the holster is stamped with what i think is the soldiers initials and he has signed his name on the inside..
