Default newcomer seek,s info on dad,s krieghoff

Hi my dad passed away last year and left me his prised luger. I was finally able to drive back to N.J to retrieve it . From your site and another Ihave been able to learn that it is a Krieghoff byf serial#3966 Ithink it has a stylized lower case u on the triger guard . all parts match with the exception of the mag. it,s # is 7950 n I have a few questions maybe you can help first it has no regimental markings of any kind why ? and is there any way to find out who once was issued this gun or when? I have seen this gun refered to as a black widow .this gun has no die mark on the barrel . My dad was stationed in Italy and was tasked with dumping guns in the ocean during the occupation im not sure if this is how he acquired it . i guess id like a little history . Thank you for any help

Hello, pictures would be a great help, you either have a byf made by Mauser or a Krieghoff, theres no such thing as a byf krieghoff.
Does your luger have Krieghoff, Anchor and HK on the middle toggle link or byf? What are the chamber markings? Black plastic gripswould be proper for a byf (mauser).
Hope this is some help.

Tom, welcome to the forum. There might be collectors in your area, although we are unsure since there is no location in your profile.

No kreighoff's were suffixed, so likely this is a mauser byf, does it have a date on the top of the reciver, i.e. 41 or 42?

Welcome to the forum!
