Default 1911 DWM value

I inherited a 1911 DWM Luger with a unit mark on the front srap. The mark is B.R.S.5.226. can anyone give me an approximate value. I would say it is in good or better condition. The magazine does not match. All numbers on the gun are matching as far as I can tell.

I'll take a guess, 5th Bavarian Reserve Signal Corps Weapon #226. Some on this board know these unit marks like the back of their hand, they will chime in later and correct this if needed.

Some pics would be nice, there weren't that many 1911's mfg. Somewhere between 10-11k IIRC.

Is the "R" cursive? Bayerische Reserve-Sanitaets-Detachement Nr.5.Waffe 226. What's the serial number of the pistol?

It's not really a rare unit marking. I list sn 1463e, B.R.S.1.170. and sn 5479e, B.R.S.5.8. as well as twenty-eight other Sanitaets units among 1911 DWM P08s. The vast majority are Bavarian with some Saxon mixed in. I also list seven 1911 Erfurt P08s all marked to the 12th Train Battalion Sanitaets company which is also a Saxon unit.

Sanitaets marked P08s are almost all 1911 dated.

I would appreciate a private message with the whole serial number.

I'm wondering the approximate value of this gun and any history about it. I have had this gun about five years and I don't know a lot about it. Thanks for the help so far.

If your magazine is period and that bottom plug is wood, (can't tell), you have a desirable Naval magazine, worth something in its own right.

Can you post photos of the magazine. It is either an original Navy mag. or a Mec-Gar aftermarket mag.
The grips look a bit too nice for the rest of the gun. Any numbers inside?
A WAG regarding value, I'd go between $1100 and $1500 IF the grips and all the numbers match excluding the magazine.
It is hard to tell about these "unit markings" valuations, but it will probably help you a bit.

The grips are not the originals..replacements I don't like the large 60 mistamped on the sideplate. I am suspicious of a replaced part here.

I would say while the unit mark is a real plus the pistol has been monkeyed with just enough to affect value some considerable bit.

the 60 on the sideplate isn't that large may just be a bad picture. I do have another set of old grips for it. but they don't apear to mach each other. one is dark and one is lighter. The magazine in the gun is definately a replacement the other one is much older but has no markings. Yea the unit mark is pretty neat.

I forgot I had the other set of grips I didn't realize they had anything to do with the value.

I inherited this and some other guns from my grandfater he probably replaced the grips. He liked to tinker but saved everything. That made me smile and laugh. We target shot a lot. We only ever shot this gun once ant it worked flawlessly. I never really liked it but I don't think I could ever sell it. I don't know much about Lugers but have been curios lately.

Patrick, You could be right about the sideplate..I took a closer look and the font seems to match. Not double stamped like it looked at first. just a weird angle on the 0. Yes..The grips on this pistol would and should be matching. For collectors who are looking for an all matching collector piece, willing to shell out the big bucks it makes a difference. In your case not so much. It was your Grandfathers, you have a history with it and it is something you treasure.

I have one grip that appears to be original. It has a 60 and a heart stamped on it. It is dark and some of the checkering is worn. the other grip has one crown stamp and two 42 stamps. My Grandfather was in WWII but didn't get the gun until the 70's. He traded telephone work for the gun.

Very interesting acceptance marks on the receiver. Can we see a better picture of the acceptance marks, please?
