Post Turkish HK's...???

Well John D.,

Your comment about the Turkish HK wooden grips in the "Reno Gun Show" thread got me back into my R. Gibson book.

All I can find, there, is the mention of some "Ates" marked extractors on some early S-codes...Gibson seems to summarize they were replaced parts, possibly by the Turks, and not at the factory. Gibson summarizes this since the observed "Ates" parts were not unumbered or proofed.

Has new info/documentation come out to further reveal this story...?

Are those unique wooden grips found only on the Ates-parted HK's ?

Thanks for the continued education...

Hey Pete,

The Ates marked extractors have a slightly different face and undercut then HK extractors and appear to be either Simson or Mauser, and therefore were not numbered/proofed as other HK production from that series.

The slightly fatter grips which I was referring to appeared the HK "G" dates, a few Early S and these same Turkish Lugers - and also appear to be of original Simson manufacture. Other early S (through some Mid S examples) have a flatter "surface", which follow the Krieghoff pattern as described in Gibson, and are the predominient grip type for those variations. For those that have these "Simson type" grips - some folks refer to these as "fat grips" in their description...

Best to you!!!

John D.
