I posted in the new collectors area the other day as I decided to find out a bit more about the Luger my grandad left me/my dad when he died, I didnt know he had one at all and my dad seems to remember it briefly from when he was young (say early to mid 50's) but hadnt seen or heard of it till he found it after clearing my grandads house.

It has been stored in grease and wrapped in a cloth rag for the past 50 years or so, I decided to get it out and take some decent pics after a couple of failed efforts with my phone, I also took off the slide and cleaned it up a bit and gave it a good going over with some gun oil I have, managing to avoid the grips (cheers Terry). The only negatives I could spot as someone new to these guns, is the missing screw from the bottom of the grip and the non matched magazine, obviously the trained eye can probably spot other details that I overlooked.

Unfortunately due to my location I cant keep it, so hopefully I will be allowed, by the powers that be, to sell it on to a collector where it can be legally owned.

If anyone could give me any details about from these pics I'd be intrested also a rough estimate of value would be handy as well, there is also a holster with it but I dont think its Luger specific, just looks like a green webbing holster with a barrel cleaner inside.

Thanks for looking, and if anyone is intrested in better pics please contact me, these dont do it justice and are all re-sized to 25%, the full res pics give better detail than the naked eye!!

Matt,

Beautiful HK luger !
I have been following the story as you have been posting in the new collector forum, but the condition of the finish in your pictures is fantastic.

I have a similar "S" date luger, # 3873 - Just a few hundred away from yours in serial number.

I sincerely hope you are able to favorably resolve the situation as TAC has suggested.
Best regards,
Fritz.

Hi Fritz,

Thanks for the nice comments. As I'm new to the Luger's, is mine of average or good condition wise? sorry if that seems like a stupid question but I've not seen any others apart from mine!

Matt.

Matt,

Our host John D. is by far the authority on HK lugers.
There are other more experienced collectors than me here as well, but I would have to agree with John S. in his last comment on the new collector's form - It appears to be in near Mint condition, and far better than most (mine included).

Best regards,
Fritz.

Matt, the hopefulness of the situation that this Luger will survive the destruction that your government would normally require urges me to suggest that if the decisions of the powers that be go the wrong way and this pistol is not to survive, that you should surrender only those parts that are required by law (normally the grip frame and the barrel/receiver, and your should retain the rest that you can probably legally sell to collectors for restoration of a similar gun. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your efforts to keep this gun in one piece for posterity...

While I for one, would never be able to afford this gun if it were importable into the USA, I would be happy to volunteer to keep it for you on this side of the ocean for you to visit and shoot anytime you had the desire... my offer is of course not entirely unselfish... but you are hereby served notice that YOUR Luger could reside in my home for safe storage for your heirs should any of them ever reside here in the USA, or even just visit the USA...

The best of luck in your endeavor... please keep us informed of your progress and please stay out of trouble...

Hello Matt,

I am have been reading the posts regarding your Krieghoff Luger in an attempt to possibly save it from distruction by the British authorities.

I would suggest that you keep quiet until you are absolutely sure what steps you must follow. In other words, do not tell anybody in the UK that you have this pistol until you receive the best advice.

For your information, I have good knowledge regarding export and import regulations in various countries in Europe and the US, and my advice to you is to sell the pistol to a collector or dealer outside of the UK. Unfortunately, it would be very difficult to import the pistol into the US because it is classified as a military pistol (in the US) and it can only be imported by a licensed importer (who would need to stamp the pistol with his dealer address which is a sin) and this limitation would make matters complicated and difficult. It would be easier for you if the pistol goes to a buyer in Europe where it is rather easy to import firearms.

Another possibility is to sell the pistol through a British auction house who might be able to 'legalize' the pistol and give you the proceeds from the sale. Auction houses take a nice chunk of money from any sale, therefore, you would receive about 30%-40% less.

If you would like to receive more advice from me, you can e-mail me at imperialarms@att.net.

Good luck,
Albert

Thanks for the comments folks.

Terry (or others) what are the chances of the FIO agreeing to let me sell it to an overseas collector? is it purely his decision and whether he got out of the right side of bed that morning? or is there a procedure/criteria the gun must meet to be deemed viable for sale?

John, your offer of storing the gun is very kind, I thank you for that, and I will seriously consider your option.

I sincerely hope the FIO aknowledges its value and the outcome is good.

Once again thanks for your help and advice.

I would think you have to be very careful how you word things to the FIO. Possibly Tac can give advice or suggestions about how to word your inquiry to him. Just a thought. Brent B.

Hi Matt.
I live in Jersey (Channel Islands) and would be happy to arrange the export process. Fortunately, here in Jersey we can hold pistols with a registered licence. Could you please contact me to discuss further?

Hi Matt - further to my earlier posting.

I'm looking to acquire the Krieghoff for myself (not for resale) & am prepared to discuss the right price. Just call or drop me a line....

Hi Matt,

I have sent you a mail a week ago, when this thread started. I have found out that when you can present to the FIO the official European Union document that this pistol is going to a licensed person, it would be very easy to go through the procedure of registering and exporting in the same day.
Please let me know if we can work this out, based on a fair price between collectors.
Joop van de Kant.

Just a quick update, things look to be going ok, my local Firearms officer has visited and taken away the Kreighoff, he's also going to contact the only section 5 firearm dealer in my area to see if he's willing to arrange the export when I find a buyer.

Thanks to people on here for the advice, especially Tac

The reason we like to have the pictures posted Here on the forum, is the example above; as the photo-bucket pictures are now gone. It is a nice training / education for folks to see a gun / item.

All,
Well after numerous months, Matt's S code is finally on it's way. I'm pleased to report it's destruction or deactivation has been avoided. A sympathetic FIO with a Section 5 dealer's help have been invaluable.
It joins my two other lugers ('37 & 41 byf).

I hope to have a double date artillery with naval markings, an army Waffenamt stamped .22 conversion kit & an MP40 shortly.
All are local firearms from the German occupation. The S code is the only 'import' so far.

I expect to post some images of the S code within the next week.
