Default can anyone help identify my luger??

hi everyone. My grandfather was 82nd airborn on d day ww2. He recently passed away and left me his luger. He got it from a dead german soldier on d day. it has a date of 1916 stamped on it and dwm -- also it has a serial number a4331. It has a dark brown/blackish holster, original clip, spare clip, tools and everything. it hasnt been reblued or anything, just kept clean and dry. It hasn't been fired since about 1950 or so, but it has no rust or any kind of corosion,--- there is even some really old ammo which i need to dispose of safely!! anyway i am excited to add this to my military memorabilia collection but would love to find out more info--any ideas?

Welcome to the Lugerforum. I don't have time to say much at the moment, but congrats on inheriting this piece of history. DO NOT dispose of or shoot the ammo. It is collectible in its own right if it is original to the gun.

The gun was manufactured by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabrik, the original manufacturer. If no parts have been replaced since manufacture it would be considered all matching numbers. Depending on the finish condition, it could be quite valuable... Please post photos of the gun. Closeups of both sides, the top, the stamps on both sides, the front of the frame, and marks, if any on the barrel. Then we can tell you much more.

i did notice that at some point he put a coat of varnish on the handle and slopped some onto the steel, but it flakes right off the steel and has not discolored or effected it in anyway.--- there is no empty box of ammo, and as you can see the spare clip and the clip in the gun are both fully loaded.
