Default 1970's Commercial Luger

I am looking at purchasing a commercial Luger made by Mauser-Werke in the 1970's. It appears to be unfired, walnut grips, 6 inch barrel and grip safety. There is one mag with what appears to be an aluminum bottom (not wood). The toggle is marked with the Mauser banner. There is no box or manual. The seller is asking approx. US $800. Any estimates of a fair value for this firearm would be appreciated. Thanks for your advice. (Although I would dearly love to buy a 4" bbl'ed shooter, the restrictive Canadian firearms laws require that any pistol I buy has a bbl longer than 105 mm)

I have available both 150mm(6") or 107mm (made for the Canadian market) new 9mm PO8 barrels @$75 each, should you decide to purchase a 100x9mm PO8 shooter and have it rebarreled. You would probably have to have the work done in Canada, with all of the red tape involved in shipping firearms across our borders. Tom h

I don't know what the exchange rate is, but the gun you describe would go for around $500/$600 in the US.

I note that Simpson Ltd has a numnber of these in their list and all are close to $1000 US. I think it would take some hard shopping to find one for $500.

Default Saw One Yesterday

Saw one for sale yesterday NIB with two mags. Incidentally, the original mags are black plastic bottoms. Anyway, I see at least one at every show I go to, and many are priced high. This one was asking $900, but would have gone for $750. However, on the rare occasion when one actually does change hands, it usually sells for $600 or less. I don't give this variation any serious attention. At those prices I can get a decent military shooter.

These have appeared every few months in Gun List in the $500/700 range. They also pop up at gun shows (at least they were at every Virginia show I attended) and though the offering price is between $750-950, the actual sales price has been around $650 or less of those I knew sold.

Thanks to all for the helpful advice. This firearm is priced at Cdn $1200, and therefore significantly overpriced if similar guns are going in the US $600's range (even given the current exchange rate). I am more interested in a nice shooter instead of a collector piece. Tom, I will keep in mind the option to add a longer 107 mm barrel to a good 4" shooter (you're right, the work would most easily be done in Canada).
