.45 Luger

New member here with a question: I've seen one of the Krause .45 Lugers, it was a gem to behold. I read that supposedly only 100 were made initially, is there any plan to build more?
What other .45 Luger clones are out there, aside from reworks?

Welcome to the Lugerforum.

I am personally aware of two other initiatives to produce.45 caliber Luger clones using modern methods...

The first is mentioned in another post today by Steve Richards the moderator in this same forum,
...and unfortunately, I am not at liberty to discuss the second project... other than to say that I know there is one in progress, because the principal's involved in the venture have not authorized the association of their names with it yet.

I can also say that the second initiative, to the best of my knowledge will not be in stainless steel, but in conventional blue steel finish like the Krause guns... and will be substanitally less in price than one of Mike Krause's wonderful reproductions.

Anyway, That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

As I understand, Mike Krause is still taking orders for his .45 lugers as well as the Baby lugers he makes. I think the last .45 luger price I was aware of was $ 15K/piece. Not sure what the Baby price is.

John Martz, I believe, also made .45 lugers out of 2 regular lugers cut 2/3-1/3 with the (2) 2/3 pieces welded back together. Martz lives in the Lincoln, CA area (just outside of Sacramento).

The Mauser folks also made one (1) custom .45 luger pistol as a prototype...never went into production during the 1970-1980's luger production.

I am pretty sure some European .45 lugers were also made by local gunsmiths...not sure by whom or how many, though...

Thanks very much for the info. I guess the next question is whether the Krause .45 cal is a good investment, or does it limited resale potential?

Considering the small number of Krause guns made, I can't see their value ever coming down, because they are what they are... a painstaking recreation of a very unique firearm. Even if someone else starts cranking them out at a far cry less than $15,000 each... there will still only be a limited supply of Krause guns...Ten years from now, I would venture that you could get a sizeable return on your investment.

I don't have $15,000 discretionary money to spend or I am sure I would own one... and I would probably SHOOT it... ( would somebody please get some smelling salts and revive Ron Wood?

My guess is that as long as Mike Krause is producing his .45 the resale value will be slightly less than the $15k new price. When he quits making them resale will go up. Post Mr. Krause's decease, the price will skyrocket.
