It probably was a nice Luger at one time before it was modified. Why would anyone do this to a Luger. These modifications did nothing to increase the value, in my opinion. Worth 12,000 Euros - not by my standards.

It wasn't modified, it was made that way. It is one of the Mauser-made 1970s Lugers made up as a promotional or presentation piece. It is a one of a kind, and depending on your collecting area of interest and bank account, you might be willing to dump $16K to get it. Not me. Pretty gun though.

The Mauser Parabellum target pieces are pretty rare, and these gold inlayed limited editions are even rarer, especially when it's a target version.

I think this one is slightly overpriced.

A good friend of mine has the original Mauser target pre-production version for sale for a mere 3500 EUR, and a pre-production series target (undecorated) for just under 2000.

He also has a gold-engraved, unfinished and unbuilt one for sale for 5000.

So the price-tag of 12000 is way off. I'd think a maximum of 6000 would be more realistic.

I think a very beautiful item. The price is high but not so far from other engraved and gold-plated Mauser Parabellum sold recently in Europe. The interest for these pistols is really increased in the last years. Most of the Mauser engraved or gold-pleated were made following the customer requirement. Therefore most of them are unique piece.
The price is a consequence!

Well, I guess it's just a matter of what someone will want to pay for it.

Some prices from the late 1990s in DM (about half a Euro):

Shot-Show special, goldplated small parts, gold inlay and gold monogram plate in the grips: 8880,-

Goldrand. Golden-edged pistol in leather case: 8300,-

Paul & Wilhem Mauser commemorative: 5200,-

20 Jahre Nachkriegsfertigung, limited edition in leather case: 4500,-

Deutsches Laub, engraved with leather case: 8500,-

Rosengravur, Wild roses engraved: 8500,-

IWA 89 special. Gray with wineleave engraving, blued parts, smooth grips, leather case: 12303,-

These prices came from correspondence with Mauser by a Dutch customer (whose Parabellum I bought) in 1996 and 1998.

Thank you for the interesting price list, useful reference point.
I agree with you that 12000 euros is too much, 6000 should be optimistic.
I would like to highlight that the price is incremented when Mauser ended the Parabellum production on 1999.
I have recently seen some late IWA engraved and gold-plated around 7000 euros (with all accessories, case and so on).
I think this gold-plated Sport-model rarer than an IWA engraved one for few reasons:
1. The sport-model itself is a quite rare Mauser Parabellum even without special customization;
2. It was made in the 1975, about 20 years before the late engraved IWA.
3. I think this model a unique piece, made by Mauser as special order.

I think 7000-8000 euros an adequate price.
This is only the point of view of a Mauser Parabellum enthusiast therefore not an impartial judge.
