Locking Toggle Question

Trying to understand why toggle locks in the open position when manually cycling a round from a half loaded magazine? I though that wasn't suppose to happen until the magazine was empty because the magazine's knurled spring knob is what activates the magazine catch. Am I wrong?

One thing to check is the spring that keeps the hold-open down in its well unless the follower button rises enough to push the hold-open up. It's an unnumbered part, and fairly easy to replace.

Something is "out of order"; you are correct in your supposition.
The toggle can be catching on the mag itself, or have a bent S hook, or something else!

I have a 1937 S/42 that did the same thing. I replaced the hold open spring and it solved the problem.

Thanks to all that replied. Looks like it could be the problem. I'll buy a new hold open spring and see if that corrects it.

The problem I had with the toggle locking has been resolved. I bought a new MecGar magazine that has a stronger spring and the problem went away. The magazine I got with my P08 is only 16 digits off from its original and appears to have been used a lot thus possibly weakening the spring.
