Las Vegas Antique Arms Show

Starting this Friday January 16th and running through Sunday January 18th is this Las Vegas show. This is the Wallace Beinfeld show at the Riviera Hotel Casino. Anyone from the forum going to be there? There are usually quite a few Lugers to examine. This is their larger show (the winter show) in the cycle. I have acquired some nice pieces over the years but you have to look hard and deep and be very careful. Starting in 2005 this show will move to the Mandalay Bay Resort convention center. Anyway, if anyone is going be there it would my pleasure to meet you if you have some time. Best Regards Lloyd in Vegas.

Lloyd, how many tables are usually at this show? Is it anything like the Big Reno show or can a pereson see everything in one day?

Herb how are you doing? You should come down to this show and enjoy our nice weather--about 65 degrees today and blue skies--really beautiful. Anyway, this show I would estimate to be about 2/3 the size of the Reno show but is more high end kind of stuff. You have a lot of expensive SAA Colts, Civil War stuff, old west Winchester Lever Actions, Colt 1911s and old flintlock type antique weapons etc. There is HOWEVER some pistols that we all love-- Lugers and the sort. If you like WWI and WWII pistols/rifles there are always some good selection and purchase possibilities. I have picked up some nice Lugers before (FGS was there last year) and Axis related pistols over the years and got some good deals at times. You have to work this show and know what things sell for and then negotiate like hell! Hope you can make it and there is another gun show (Claude Hall Show) at Cashman field the same weekend!

I'll be there! I'm booked at Circus Circus for Thursday night and will spend most of Friday at the show then on to Laughlin that night, do some sightseeing/shopping on Saturday then to Mesquite and home on Sunday. The weather sounds good, it finally struggled up to 45 for a high today, it's the mornings that are not so good, last Saturday it was 10 below and only got up to 20. The wife is antsy to go somewhere so hopefully this will take the edge off for her.

I would love to "meet up" with you gentlemen! I had the pleasure of meeting Herb at the Reno show last August at the dinner. I am meeting Dean Gizzi (a WWII Axis Pistol collector from over On Jan Still's site) at the show Friday, maybe we all four could arrange to meet for lunch or something on Friday. I am available Friday or Saturday so whatever would work for you on those days works for me. Looking forward to the show and meeting you! I already have the lead on a nice early Tokarev TT33 that I hope to acquire first thing Friday morning!

Lloyd, sounds like a plan. Since you are probably familiar with the Riviera Casino perhaps you could suggest a time and place for John and I to meet up with you. The wife and I will arrive in LV Thurs afternoon and I plan on being at the Riviera early Fri morning hoping to find a parking place nearby, pay the admittance fee etc and join the opening rush to the tables. From the standpoint of collecting Lugers the show was a disappointment, only about 20 Lugers there, Ralph Shattuck having about 12 of them. All out of my price range except a nice 1918 DWM for $795 and the guy said he had room to deal, but I already have one. John S and Joshua, sorry to say the guy with the WWII 9mm ammo was not here, or at least if he was I couldn't find him. We still had fun though, had lunch with Lloyd and a friend of his from KA then to Laughlin and the next day to Oatman AZ where wild burrows roam around in the main street. The wife picked up a really nice tourquois and silver necklace from an Indian aritsan named Yellowhammer, he makes them in his shop there. I highly recommend visiting this little gold town if you are in the area, I have never seen anything like it. Some reenactors held a wild west robbery of Wells Fargo and had a shootout in the street, not even flinching the wild burrows that were bumming treats from the tourists. Lots of really old firearms, some looking as if they went back to Genghis Kahn, but not the ususal junky kind of show, very little ammo and surplus stuff, mainly just a show for serious collectors, saw a few shotguns going for a measly $58,000 bucks. If your interests are mainly Lugers this is not a show that I would recommend.

It was a pleasure to meet you again at this show in Las Vegas and also your wife. Thanks for taking the time to have lunch and visit--talk Lugers and pistol collecting.

You are right this show was pretty weak on Lugers. I did see a Erfurt (1918) for $795 that was a beautiful restoration, several over priced artillerys and a 1908 Naval Luger (a restoration) in the 56xx range as I recall for around $2,800. Because I don't collect just Lugers I was able to acquire a very nice 1938 Soviet Tokarev TT33 (all matching barrel, frame, slide and hammer/sear module) and also a brand new absolutley mint condition (looks like it jsut came off the factory floor) Sauer 38H E/37 waffen stamped, a HP holster from Bob Hogan 42 dated and a very strong cartouche and WaA920 waffen stamped and lastly a WaA140 stamped high power magazine in very excellent conditon--they are getting harder to find.

Anyway, thanks for sticking around to have lunch and visit--hope to see you again in August at the Reno show.
