Default Lugar

How can you tell if a lugar is a commerical or military model?

Default It's Luger Will...

and the quickest way is if there are stamps on the right front receiver and all the small parts have the last two digits of the serial number, it's a military, if those things are absent it's a commercial. Now this is a generalization... but will work as an answer to your question I think.

Appears that the serial number is 7421. All small parts have 21 stamped on them. Top of pistol has 1942 and the trademark of Mauser. Above serial number appears to be an eagle. Serial number 7421 appears in front of the trigger. Also, their appears to be stamped "y" below the serial number in front of the trigger.

It's a Nazi era military Mauser. As this was smack in the middle of WW II, I think you can safely rule out out a commercial model

Default Re: Commerical?

If the logo on your luger's center toggle link is indeed the Mauser Banner, vise S/42, 42 or BYF code, it may be a commerical or police procurement. What is the date on the chamber? Most of the PO8s in the "y" suffix block with have a 41 (1941) or 42 (1942) date. Some will be Eagle/L police accepted on the right side just aft of barrel and some will be Eagle/N commerically proofed on the left side.
