Borchardt holster?

A pic of my holster I started. Wonder if anyone knows the size of the straps used? I'm guessing around 5/8". Someone else posted this pic of the rig, probably as ugly a rig as was around, but in 1893...

Check with Jerry Burney (lugerholsterrepair). He knows the size of the strap and has even made reproductions! By the way, rumors that the guy in your photo is me is unfounded

Bill, Yes a great photo! I can only assume you have in your possession the stock you show? If you do..you can measure the slots to determine the actual width.
Most standard straps, such as the Artillery are 3/4 inch. Thickness varies but is usually 1/10 to slightly more .0140 is about max but again..you can measure the width of the slots to see what they will accept.

The measurement is right at 2 cm or 7/8 inch. You want photos? You'll have to wait a day as I am swamped right now with projects that pay.

Ron, it must be your evil twin. It couldn't be you, the Borchardt would be wrapped in swaddling clothes before it was stuffed in the holster.

Thanks for the comments, Gents. I found that 3/4" Latigo strap material seems to work the best. I haven'got the long piece for the 'off the shoulder' strap. Nor, as yet have I made the "staple" bolts for the stock and frame....don't know what else to call them? The way the gun actually is strapped in, sure seems it would have been an unwieldy rig to use......certainly no 'fast draw'. I guess one would more likely wear the holster only on a belt, maybe carrying the rest along for storing. The stock I made from walnut, the holster is 9/10 oz. vegetable tanned hide with 'eco friendly' black dye

I believe he's known as 'Dr. Carl Peters', quite a story there in itself. I think his clip is missing....oor my eyes are bad!

I recall being in a gunshop back in the early 90's when a kid brought in a complete cased Borchardt Rig in 99% condition. He had inherited it from his Grandfather to sell for college funds. He wanted $2000.00 for it. The shop owner told him he would give him $800.00 max.

Another customer flat told the kid that he was getting robbed at that price. The kid didn't sell it to the dealer. I wish I had known then what I know now. I would have taken out a second mortgage.

Shows what greed can cost you. He could have given $4000 and still made a killing. Back about early to mid 90's, I put a $2000 deposit on a Borchardt only, toward a $4000 price tag from from the guy who specialized in Lugers out in Arizona. Unfortunately, when it came time for the 'balance due', I couldn't come up with the other 2 grand and lost my money. I imagine that cased set would have brought $10Grand back then.
