Default Help

Since were all interested in the same things; I just purchased and am waiting on a sniper version Soviet SVT 40. Does anyone know the optimal setting for the gas adjustor at the front of the barrel? Best ammo to use? Hope somebody out there knows, Mike

I adjusted one of my SVT-40s not too long ago, starting at the lowest setting and working my way up. In warm weather and the rifle cleaned and lubed, it wouldn't start cycling until the third notch. This was with PPU ammo. I'm sure it varies wildly with ammo and the condition of the rifle, so the best way to adjust it is probably what I did. The SVT-40 scope mount is said to be flimsy, so you need to run it at the lowest setting possible so it doesn't move.

BTW: Make sure you loosen or remove the gas piston before you try to turn the adjustment valve. Some simply buy the special tool and start cranking on it, but if the valve is loose you don't even need the tool. If it won't turn, you remove the piston, tap the valve out and reinsert it in the next position. This is the safest way and you won't bugger the valve.
