Default Odd barrel

I have an 1917 DWM luger that has a barrel that is milled flat for about 1 and a half inches from the receiver. it has a mark that looks like a 2 out front and back towards the receiver it has a U with a +45 and a round dent underneath. I haven't seen this in any pictures anywhere. Also it looks like it had an artillery rear toggle that had a sight welded on top. Anyone know what I have?

Photos, yes! But so far, my guess would be an artillery with its barrel chopped off, perhaps the barrel band re-created, and a rear sight to make up for the loss of the original on the barrel. Pics!

Yes, pictures are a must. We have seen some strange barrels here lately, and I for one find them all interesting!

They're in here -

http://forum.lugerforum.com/album.php?albumid=560

But I'll link them, because I can't tell what they are either...

Is this first pic the toggle-mounted rear sight???

This one looks like an artillery barrel that has been rounded off to eliminate the large dovetail base for the tangent rear sight...

And what little shows of the receiver/barrel extension is heavily buffed...Way heavy...

And here is what it looked like before 'bubba' ground the snot out of it...

The original poster's top photo looks to me like part of a military rifle (Mauser?) rifle rear sight that has been ground/filed to fit the Luger Toggle and silver soldered on in an attempt to lengthen the sight radius ... Crude but functional.

Yes, clearly a rifle rear sight ramp. See the rachet teeth on the right side of the rear sight.

THANK GUYS I wondered if that was the case. The stamped 2 and the t45 looked like arsenal marks. I have replaced the rear toggle and ground the sight off the old one out of curiousity. It had a tapped hole and notch underneath. He welded the toggles back. Im still grinding the slope back in hopeing to hit original metal. I think it may of been an artillery toggle. And as a side note the barrel looks freshly relined, like new bore. Great shooter, runs my loads flawlessly.
