Toggle Won't Lock in the Back Position
New to the forum so maybe this has been asked before and I am unaware of the answer.
The 7.65 Luger I have has been passed down through the family. I have never fired it and I don't know the last time it had been fired. I am anxious to take it to the range and put a few rounds through it. I have noticed that the toggle will not stay in the back locked position when I manually pull it back with no rounds in it. I don't know if I am not pulling back hard enough (it is pretty stiff) or is something is wrong. Is it okay to fire the weapon? |

When you have an empty mag in, the follower button on the mag should push a little lever up and hold the toggle back. First thing is to see if you have this hold back device installed
Here it is the piece #48, running along the inner rt. side of the frame, then the cross piece just behind the magazine well. FN Last edited by FNorm; 11-14-2010 at 06:54 PM. Reason: ed |

Thanks FNorm. Finally got around to taking the gun apart yesterday. What I found is that the magazine has a little slack in it. It does not lock tight up into the slot. If I press on the bottom of the empty magazine while pulling back the toggle, it locks back like it is supposed to.
I guess I need to look into why the magazine isn't locking tight into the slot. Is there somewhere I can get another Luger 30 magazine? |

Hi, get a new MecGar for shooting. They work great and function both in 9mm and .30 luger pistols.

The front hole/slot in the mag gets worn and elongates. This is where the mag lock shaft locks it into the gun. A new or different mag usually solves the problem.

Mec Gar Mag
I just purchased a 30 Cal Luger myself. Would not lock back on its own without pushing up also. Original mag with wood bottom. It goes into storage for safe keeping. Try Ambient Outdoors is where I found my Mec Gar Mag. Just got in all the reloading stuff for the 30 cal so it's reloadiing time and figuring out my favorite load. 90 gr lead cast with Unique and SR4756. Good luck with the mag. I would not use the original myself.
