1906 Luger- 7.65 Cal.

I have a 1906 Luger with stock lug, chambered in 7.65 caliber plus app. 200 rounds ammo. Gun is 70%to 75% with minimal wear on wood grips and end of barrel. Gun shoots great just not a collector of Lugers.

Has all matching numbers, was told by one collector that it is 1 of 650 made. (?? ) I got the gun with some others on a trade.

It is not a model 1906 but appears to be a 1920s commercial. It's one of many thousands made.

Closer clearer pictures of any markings, dates and stamping will help. If possible outdoor sun light usually does the trick.

Thank you both for the info. That is mainly my problem, I have never owned or had any reason to know much about the Lugers. I have had it looked at by 3 different people and truthfully have had 3 different opinions and prices from such. I will take some better pics tomorrow and post them. Any info and what is a fair price to ask for it would be very much appreciated !! I only shot the gun when I got it to make sure it was funtional.Not been shot since. Really would appreciate input on this gun. Thanks, Johnny

Well, we will give you 'correct' opinions and can back it up with well respected books and a few authors on the site

The average gunshop has no idea what variation a luger is, nor do 90% of the gun owners out there, literally there are hundreds of variations.

Take a picture or tell us the serial number on the front of the frame, plus any markings on the left or right.

Even non-dedicated collector should have one or two Lugers, for its uniqueness. Weimar Commercial Luger is a good choice in this scenario - it's very affordable, and it's a real Luger. Dedicated Luger collectors chase rare ones, of course. If this one is all matching, original, and it shoots great, it's a great one to keep. Just an opinion.

Be careful of that ammo...Not that 7.65 is any barn-burner, but could be corrosive...Should be cleaned immediately...

Are you selling it? I already have one; IIRC, I paid ~$700 for it...Without ammo...

I agree with Alvin; Lugers are unique and if you want to turn heads at the range, shooting a Luger (and having ejected shells bounce off your forehead) will do it...

I heard of this issue, saying Luger throws empty cartridge case towards user, but I cannot remember it had ever happened on my Interarms Luger which I fired around 1000 rounds, indoor. Have not fired my pre-45 Lugers yet (too nice to use), no shooting experience on those.

Mauser Broom did throw a hot empty case into my shirt once, indoor. The shelter is low, the empty case flew out, hit the roof, bounced back and fall into my shirt, and burned my back skin.

Thanks to everyone posting! There are markings like Crown over N, 1917 dates, 17 on all the parts, Geirshart on the safety. I also have some .30 caliber ammo for this. I am now offering it at trades as well, a nice 1911 45 and $500. cash. Any offers, Johnny

looks like a commercial and the 1917 is probably the serial. Commercial is sometimes not as valuable as wartime stuff unless its rare. Is there a script letter on the front of the gun under the barrel? If there is its an alphabet commercial wich is worth if all original parts and finish between 700-1000 on a good day depending on wear.
