Imperial era question

I am looking to get a 1918 imperial, if the gun was not reissued during WW2 and it still has all its correct 1918 markings does this mean this gun was just out of service after WW1?? I am just curious about the possible history. Kind of a silly question but i know there are people on this board with way more knoledge than me. Thanks.

No, It was likely pressed into service during the Weimar era. Many have the 1920 property mark as well as the date but not all by any means.

It could have been captured and arrived in the US soon after WW1.

80 some years is a long time. The only thing you will likely know for sure is the date it was made..1918.

I have a 1912 DWM that I obtained from a very good friend. It is unit marked to a WWI unit and is in excellemt condition. His father captured it in WWII. It has no WWII markings.

Thanks guys, Ron your reply was down the road i was thinking, that there guns out there maybe a lot that saw service after the imperial era but are not marked at all. Thanks again
