Default Re: Bavaria Rural Police Luger

The inscription appears to have been put on with a DC discharge pencil. It is more like a tiny arc welder in that it burns the marking into the steel. Normally you can see where the pencil was put down and picked back up by a tiny arc mark. It is commonly used on hardened steels to mark them. The electric vibrating pencil marks by stippling the steel and leaves a rough finish. It will only work on soft metals.

Hi Thor,

You kinda "snookered" us with your "rare" Luger comments. Was a good exchange of thoughts though. Take care!

True Bill, glad you guys have a sense of humor1 It is a pity to see this! I do watch on for nice originals, but I usually can stop the rework before I get it! I really did know this one was good to go to make it look better and more correct! Thanks for your insights! I enjoyed it! Thor

Default CHECK THIS OUT! Bavarian (Rural) Police Photo :)

Believe it or not Thor, the website where this photo is displayed purports that this photos shows some members of the Bavarian Police in 1944...

You can see the origin URL of the photo as a watermark:

www.photosammler.de

Notice that they are ALL carrying Lugers. Perhaps one of them is the pistol now in your possession!

Also notice the variety of the holsters in use...

sehr interessant - nicht wahr?
