Default You hit the "X" ring.... I agree...

We are seeing some of the folks who have a lot to contribute now shying away from posting. I also suspect - a lot of the new folks who lurk here - and have NOT posted their questions - are leery of doing so...

BTW - this is just my opinion - please do NOT flame for it....

BTW2: That wouldn't include me - as, I rarely have anything to contribute - unless it is a HK question...

I have a good HK Question, but I am saving for my next test. I think I will call it Luger Test for NEW Collectors-It will go over the fundamental, maybe we have covered before, but important, even some in tests before! But I want to encourage the newcomiers, so it will be EASY! Thor

Default Yep.. - BUT - I'll help DOK get the test on line....

as long as I don't see the test before-hand....

Also - since you have run a lot of quizzes along with John S./Patrick - after you do the next one - I'll do the one after SO YOU and DOK can compete, OK????

Default Quiz #4 -Dok & JD -If EVERYONE who would like to participate will send

me two questions with answers, I will be glad to compile them and select a random set of questions for the next quiz. The only requirement is that the answers to the question must be traceable to a recognized and published source (other than the Forum) so there can be no disputed test results. I will take the selected set of questions and create a web-based quiz like we had the last time whenever Dok thinks enought time has passed since Quiz #3.

I thoroughly enjoyed putting that last quiz together, and don't mind at all sitting out on taking them...

I would like to have enough time (@ 2 months) to polish the test format into a form that would then be continuously reusable simply by inserting new questions... Once that is done, anyone could use the format to create a quiz.

I am going to try and get one of my database developer friends to work on an automated scoring module to take the work out of scoring and posting the winner...

Whatever you guys decide is fine with me... Just let me know.

-John

ACtually I mentioned it 6/18 on a post listed at 7:17pm entitled "You Hit the nail on the head" This prompted John D to respond with "Next Quiz" etc!

Default that's great TED, go for it...I am just planning for the future...

It really doesn't matter to me how many quizzes we have, I think they are great fun. I just want to accomplish the list of things I mentioned to make quizzes easier to conduct in the future...

best to ya,

John

Default A Quiz Idea....

You know - I really like these quizzes (I like them more when I can participate though )!!!

In reading this thread - an idea just occurred to me (OK - I do get an idea occassionally - less frequently - it may actually be a "good idea"...

The existing quiz format is great - but the subject of all Lugers and their history is kind of mind boggling to many of us. In fact many - if not most - of us specialize in particuliar eras or variations. That being the case, what do you all think of doing quizzes that focus in on these specialized areas? For example - have several threads on BYF BW varitions - and I'm sure there is enough information in the books on this specific type to do a quiz on just BWs? Or perhaps one for the WW1 era, or a quiz on Police variations, or holsters, etc??

In that way - we can actually "study" as it were, for these eras, rather then try to become an expert the entire history. From my perspective - more focused quizzes would allow many of us not to be overwhelmed with the extensive material required to score well. It would also promote our learning through preparing for a specific era.

To that point, if we wanted to go that route, I'd also be pleased to do a quiz on Kriegs - as I'm sure many of you would do for your respective areas of collecting expertise (for example - Navy models, Artillery models, Dutch, Vickers, etc..) Furthermore - and as a benefit, I also think the quizzes would then have some interesting, and little known, facts about those particuliar eras/variations brought to light..

Just a thought.. What do you folks think??

Default John, what I would *love* to see...

is a quiz for newbies that Ted selected the questions and answers, as well as the criteria of who was eligible, and for you to put that together in the grand style as the last one.

How about it?

Default Great idea, John D....

but many newbies may not have access to the research material, so they might be disenfranchised, but for the more advanced of us... a super idea. Perhaps this could be quiz #5 (I'm still in favour of doing something for our newer members, look who has won the three quizes so far... Me, Marvin and Tom Heller) I'm for giving the new members a break.

Default I agree - I think a simplier...

quiz for the newer folks is a great idea..!!! Frankly, when I started collecting - I wish I had a resource like this available..

Of course - when I started collecting, Al Gore hadn't quite discovered the Internet, so this Forum could not have existed.. Thanks, Al... LOL!!!! ..!!!

Default A super Idea! Once the quiz is over the Answers could be written up as

Entries for the FAQ. The FAQ could have sections on each type we quiz on, and as quizzes go by each FAQ would be a greater resource for the new guys...

It's either the heat or the folks who are posting. (I would say the latter IMHO).
