Post SHOTGUN NEWS magazine-nice article

I was just going over the February 3rd issue of SHOTGUN NEWS and I saw an article titled "Luger & P.38 on the Web" by Bill Shadish. In the article there were references to a number of websites for both pistoles and the author rates the websites (five stars for best and one star for worst). The Lugerforum was rated best. Five stars for 'Information Content', four stars for 'Graphics', 'Load Times', 'Useful Links' and 'Commercial Free'. 'Acessibility' and 'Information Updating' got three stars. The summery was that we got an overall rating of a solid four star over all rating. Hats off to all the moderators.

A good second place went to a website called "My Fascination with the Luger" which got a solid three star rating. But it was hurt badly with a one star in 'Graghics'.
www.clede.com/Articles/guns/sgn0800.htm

Third place with a weak three star rating was"Luger-German 9mm Handgun Site"

While I want to congradulate all the moderators and contributors of this site, I do want to make note of the fact that we have recently passed the membership count of 1111. I think that this is some sort of Luger beer frame and, according to bowling tradition, the moderators owe all of us a cold one.

PS I almost forgot, there was some other stuff about P.38's

Hey Big Norm..!

Thanks for posting that info - I had no idea..! I think we should all get a complementary subscription to Shotgun News for our achievement.. Seriously - can you tell me what was said about either the P-38 Forum/Site or the PPK Forums? They all sit on this same server - so I'd be interested if they even got a mention....

Thanks again!!!

I guess the fellow that had the article in Automag, TWICE, was incorrect.

I noted on the "www.clede.com/Articles/guns/sgn0800.htm", that there's a comment to the effect that the sear bar was originally held in place by the side plate and usually falls out during field stripping.

Is this how 'urban legends' start, or are my sears about to spontaneously detach

I've got to say that having looked at the other sites I believe this one deserves about 9 stars in comparison.

Dok,
I didn't think you would like to know about his rating of the P.38 forum. Just remember, I am just the messenger and not the writer. I still want my beer frame beer.
Seriously. Two Stars. Not good. Not much discussion.
"A fairly easy to use discussion board focusing on the P.38. Everything is covered, from disassembly, finding parts and proof mark discussions.".
If you want the article, email your address and I will tear it out of the magazine and snail mail it to you. The article has the authors bio and e-mail address.

Stu,
I just skim read the Cledes site and generally regarded it as a bit naive and not truely factual. But it may have some interesting other sites to visit after I read it more fully. But I agree that that site does not compare to the Lugerforum.

The lugerforums strength is that it accomodates newbies so well. These new people are our future gun collectors. They are sometimes afraid to ask questions in person because they might look stupid. And some may not be that familiar with computers.

I found Jan Stills site to be pretty good. The more I read his stuff the more I am impressed with his data gathering for his books. Man, where did he find all those Lugers he used in his books? But his site covers more guns than just the Luger and I suspect that he may be trying to associate himself with the NAPCA (AutoMag). The AutoMag has often thought about going online and saving mailing costs.

The AutoMag has some great articles. But it can be difficult following a discussion and the pictures can only be in black and white. These pictures can be quite fuzzy at times. But then again, some old time gun collectors don't have computers and others have one but are terrified of them for a number of reasons.

No more free beer for you!!! Seriously, DOK and I are two different folks (for which DOK is thankful - heh, heh, heh...). DOK is the guy who did the initial LugerForum site design (on a MAC no less!!!) and he makes some absolutely beautiful Custom Presentation cases (which you can see here: http://www.centercustomcases.com/ ).

Anyway - I know I have to update the P.38 website, but over the past few months - it has really grown and is thriving. Folks like Orv, Deiter, G.T., Frank - and dozens of others have done a tremendous job of making it a "hot spot" on the Internet for P.38 collectors and enthusiasts. My guess is that from a number of posts comparision, that site may take even more posts then this message Board...

However - I still want to add some features over there - such as a "Classifieds" section, a FAQ and some other things which should enhance both the usability and feature set.

Big Norm - thanks for sharing the comments back..! And nope, I'm not discouraged at all with the rating of the P.38 Forum. It issues a challange to make it even better - which will happen..!

DOK,
NO MORE BEER!!! There goes my bowling game.

Sorry about the name mixup. I don't got no P.38's. I pretty much stick to Lugers. I thought if I branched out to other guns I would not have any money left to lose on the stock market (including next Monday). Sometimes I go to a garage sale and find a gun that some widow is going to turn over to the police to melt down. If the gun is a good one, I make an offer. I picked up a beautiful CZ-27 and a Mauser Model-1934 that way. But thats the extent of my ramblings away from Lugers.
