Luger Ammo Preferences, etc.
I have 4 Lugers that I shoot, and they all seem to like Winchester 115gr, FMJ. Occasionally, I get a jam, but not often.
Question: Since the 115gr Winchester FMJs are a lighter load than the original German ammo, would it improve the performance of the action to change out the mainspring to a 36# Wolff? Is there any danger in doing this? Appreciate any information or experience you have with this lighter spring. |

Re: Luger Ammo Preferences, etc.
No Danger. You just have to make sure the weaker spring will close the action completely, sometimes a problem, but usually not! Thor

Re: Luger Ammo Preferences, etc.
Luke,
posted this earlier today but somehow this got lost. The WIN 115 grs. seems to be a little fast for the old lady. The ammo recommended most here is Lapua 125 grs. at 320 meters/sec. (1,050 fps). Works excellent and is very precise. Here it sells for approx. $ 270/1000. My favoured reload is a 124 grs. FMJ RN, 4.3 grs Vihtavuori N320, WIN SP primer, OAL I think is 30 mm. Lapua ammo and Vihtavuori powders are distributed in the U.S. by Midsouth. Hope, this helps a little. Juergen |

Juergen, could you elaborate?
In your post above, you wrote:

Re: Juergen, could you elaborate?
Luke,
I don't say the WIN ammo is a problem, but the standard cartridge designed for the P08 was a 124 grs. at approx. 1,050 fps. A load like this will significantly reduce malfunctions. Also, the lapua ammo turned out to be a precision load. I use it although it costs twice as much as other brands over here. When I have a chance to do so, I will shoot a group and load up the picture. Could take a week or 2. Juergen |

Important, re OAL posted
Oops,
the OAL for the Vihtavuori load posted was incorrect. The correct OAL is 29,0 mm (1.142") rather than 30 mm. Sorry, Juergen |
