Maybe take the kids shooting if it's not storming. I got a Russian 91/30 I've shot just a few times,Kids are screaming to shoot the Henry .22(best $180. I've spent in a while).I might even take the Lugers out. Clean guns afterwards. Do as little as possible the rest of the day. Maybe cook on the grill in the evening. I'm not too ambitious, I tore some ligaments in my right upper leg(groin),and ain't going nowhere in a hurry.

Happy Fathers day, Stevie.

No, no, no, you forgot some of my favorite movies:

1) The Cross of Iron
2) Saving Private Ryan
3) Band of Brothers
4) Das Boot-Director's Cut
(there is a P.38 in this one)
5) The Blue Max

These are some of the greatest ones made.

I mentioned a John Wayne movie in a previous post, RE: P.38 scene. It's "The Sea Chase". John Wayne portrays the anti-Nazi Captain of a German frieghter, who is trying to get his ship and crew back to Germany. With the Allies and Germans in pursuit. There is a good scene where the crew is preparing to mutiny. He goes to his stateroom to get two P.38s out of a glass case on the bulkhead (That's a wall, for you landlubbers) above his bunk. Great movie!

An interesting fact which may be where idea of "The Sea Chase" story developed.

In 1914 at the outbreak of the First World War a German ship in Melbourne slipped its moorings and tried to make a run for home. Unfortunately the mouth of Port Philip Bay was guarded a couple of old coastal forts built in the 1800's, the main one's being Nepean in the east and Queenscliffe in the west. One of Nepean's guns put a shot across the bows of the fleeing ship and it wisely decided to give up.

In 1939, another German ship tried the same trick, slipping it's moorings and making a run for it. The same gun sent a shot across the bows of the fleeing ship, and it to surrended.

Both shots, from the same coastal gun were the first shots fired by Australian forces during World War 1 and World War 2. Both forts are now museums. If anyone is interested I will try and find the names of the two german ships.

I gotta agree though, "The Sea Chase" is a great movie.

Ratts! It is raining guess I'll fall back on Thor's plan. Maybe I'll watch "Master and Commander" it's got lots of guns, but no repeaters. Cook grilled cheese sandwichs on the stove, hmmm don't sound much like Thor's plan.

Rained out! Stevie.

Stevie, How far are you from Salisaw? My Grandad was born and raised there. The home town of Pretty Boy Floyd.

I had the best Fathers Day ever this weekend. I took the time to really get away from it all and devote the entire time to my daughter. I went with her to the "My Guy" camp held at the Chaparral Girl Scout Camp in the Santa Fe National Forest. No radio, No TV, no traffic, and no worries. A little hiking, a little craft work, and a whole lot of love and time spent together. It was great. I as well as all the other dads there are planning on doing this again next year.

Our kids are all grown and living their own lives, but I had the privilege of having my oldest grandson here for Father's day and the rest of the summer!

Andrew and I went to the new Smithsonian Air & Space Museum Annex at Dulles Airport to spend the day on Saturday... After hours of enjoying seeing all the historic aircraft and spacecraft, and one of the IMAX movies about Helicopters, he and I decided to grab a quick bite at the Subway that is in the museum building... and who walks by and sits down to enjoy lunch with his family?

One of the American heroes of our time... One of the original 7 Mercury Capsule Astronauts and the first American to orbit the earth in outer space: John Glenn.

What a privilege for me to meet this space pioneer while with my grandson! Andrew will remember this day till he is the grandfather in this family!

Hey John S.,

What a great opportunity !

Did you offer to sew a Luger Forum patch onto Mr. Glenn's vest...???

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete,

Despite his "American Hero" status, I am afraid that Senator Glenn and I don't see eye-to-eye on political issues... The right to keep and bear arms being one of those issues...

...so I just seized this historical moment for Andrew's memories... and left feeling like we had a GREAT day.

Yes, it's ashame that Senator Glenn is a Socialist. You'd think that all that he's seen and done he'd be totally opposite. The only thing I can respect him for is his contribution to the space race.

I am dismayed at the thought... John Glenn. Senator, there must be a misunderstanding.

Don't forget that Senator Glenn is now a politian and he doesn't want to offend any of the "soccer moms" in Ohio. I once ask Rep. Tom Lantos, Dem. from Calif. who was a refugee from Communist Hungary, about his stand on the Crime Bill, and gun control in general, since he came from a country with extreem gun control laws, and found he was all for it, and was cheered on by all of the women in attendance.
