I'll check, but I'm sure for the serial number with small S letter, and byf 42...
S is after k or L, so why did you say "too early"? It seems to be of the last lugers manufactured by Mauser.

Richard, thanks a bunch for the date!!

Theirry, the 42 byf production began in the B-Block and ended in the N-Block. Most of the M & N - Blocks were contract pistols to either Portugal or Bulgaria!! So a "s" is either too early or too late!! I said too early because it couldn't be too late, since none were made after the "n"!!

I'm sure that gun is original...
I'll picture it in details to show you the letter, perhaps I'm wrong.

Actually - I *forgot* I owned a 42 BYF RIG until I got many of mine out of the safe for Ed to look at..??!! I also found my 41 BYF RIG..??!! Hmmm....

I'm not senile - just getting old..

Anyway - hopes the data helps!!!

My first luger which I purchased today has the number 440 i and no bore gauge
It has an eagle with 135 stamped under it on the barrel along with the Nazi eagle.
