Default Valuation needed soon!

I do not own any third Reich police Lugers, and have just been offered my first one, and don't know what it is worth. It is being held for me for 24 hours until I make up my mind. Description is as follows: 1940 Mauser Banner, E/f police marked, matching magazine (this is the mag #1, too bad #2 is not present), original finish 99% or better in and out, mirror bore, has traces of what appears to be cosmoline in spots! Stripped it down and all parts match down to the firing pin and the beautiful wood grips. The seller is stuck firm on $1500. My guess is that this is a fair price, but not a real steal, or am I wrong? Reply needed soon!

Default Buy it!

If it is correct, original, and has not been fooled with, it is worth a lot more than the asking price.

Really had to push you into that decision, right?

It is your responsiblilty to provide that historical firearm a deserving place with others of its quality in your collection. It would be simply unacceptable for it to go to someone else with a lesser appreciation. If you don't rescue it there is a chance it might end up under a pickup truck seat or in a tackle box. You have meade the only decision a responsible prudent mature adult could make. You are to be commended. (Congratulations, I'm just jealous)

Default Logic

I like that 'saving it for future generations' concept!

May I try that with my wife? She thinks one P38 is a collection!

The Mauser banner now is happily reposing in my hermetically sealed, dehumidified, electrically warmed safe along with all its other brethren. No doubt they are exchanging war stories and bragging to each other, thanks to the advice from all you knowledgeable gentlemen. Tonight I shall treat myself to an hour of gentle fondling, and tomorrow we will have a fun session with the digital camera. I am ecstatic!

Default Geez, Jerry!

You blew me out of the water with that price quote! A late Blue Book quotation talked about $1600 for this Luger, but I have always found this publication to be on the low side. Where else can we turn for this up to date info except to our Luger Forum comrades? We really need an up to date pricing guide, don't you think? Bless you all for being there!

John, To be honest it was a mint example with a mint brown holster, matching mag etc. It was listed on Gunbroker for a short while. That's what it was offered for and I declined it because of the price. I am willing to bide my time and find bargains, not pay high retail. You are right, Blue book values one of these much less but I am more than willing to pay blue book prices for say, a 70% Imperial German Navy...anyone want to sell one? Jerry Burney
