Default 9mm Luger-Moderate Factory Load

I have just about decided to try some Sellier & Bellot ammo, Cheaper than Dirt has it for $6.29 a box of 50 rds. I searched on the internet for some ballistics to see if this is what I wanted. I was looking for a 124 gr loading at around 1200 fps, for about 400 ft-lbs of energy. I found a site where the S&B ammo ballistics were listed: The one I found is at http://www.sb-usa.com/pistol_ammo_page.htm The 124 gr variety went at a speed of 1188 so I was just about there. I check the 30 Mauser of 7.65x25 MM and GEEEZUS PALOMINO!!!! it was cranking out an 85 gr bullet at a sizzlin 1647 fps for an energy level of 514 ft-#s. WOWOWOW! VAS und HOT TAMALE! Don't think I want to drop that baby into an old C96 Broomie with worn springs....ouchola!! ~~~~THOR~~~~

Thor, before you fire the Sellier & Bellot ammunition out of a fine Luger or Mauser you may want to check out the composition of the FMJ bullet. The last time I checked with a magnet it stuck to the bullet. After I inquired further I found that a lot of their FMJ pistol ammunition was loaded with a "copper plated steel bullet jacket".

Hi Thor!

The reason for the unusually high muzzle velocity S&B lists for their 7.63 Mauser/7.62x25 Tokarev is it was chronographed from an eleven inch barrel test ;-)

Very best,

Kyrie

Well, what firearm that is chambered for that round has that long a barrel, that is carbine length? What would you estimate it to be coming out of a 5 &1/2" Barrel? Thanks Kyrie for the info! A pretty formitive round!!! ~Thor~

Hi Ted,

The Vz.24 and PPSh sub-machineguns come to mind

But seriously, the rule of thumb is each inch of barrel length makes a twenty-five feet per second difference in muzzle velocity. So, just to keep to even numbers, take the six inch difference in barrel length between the test barrel (eleven inches) and the Vz.52 barrel (five inches), multiply that six inches by twenty-five feet per second to get one-hundred and fifty feet per second. Subtract that from the advertised 1647 fps and get about 1517 fps.

Very best,

Kyrie
