Although I will never fire my 9mm carbine, I wonder if there were special rounds made specifially for the carbine due to long barrel

beautiful luger carbine, i have a box of old 30 cal ammo winchester western and on the back of the box is stated NOT for luger carbine,,,,, so there must have been special ammo at some point i really do not know hope this helps,, MATT

I've read that to compensate for the added mass of the forearm and barrel, there was a specific carbine load that was made to approx. 20% greater pressure.

I know I do have a box somewhere when Ralph Shattuck sold it to me! The carry on case was hand made by Jerry Burney. There are no import marks anywhere, GERMANY!

The carbine had a special high power load. These were dangerous to fire in a regular luger so the cases were blackened. The head of these was marked DWM 471. This at least applies to the 7.65. I am sure others know a lot more about this than me. Bill

As Bill said, there was a special high power .30 luger load for the .30 luger carbines.

Since the originality of 9mm carbines is still being disputed, it would be nice to have some proof in the shape of a special high power 9mm load for carbines.

There is an interesting document from the DWM archives that mentions some experimental loads that had been cancelled. They never got beyond the experimental stage. A remark besides the cartridge 480D reads: "Karabiner ist nicht in den Handel gebraucht", which translates as "Carbine was not brought to market" / "Carbine was never sold commercially".

Does this mean that 9mm carbines are not real? No. It just means that there were no commercially marketed 9mm carbines at the time this document was written, which was around 1912-1913.

It also shows that at least there were plans to create a commercial 9mm carbine, together with a 9mm load especially made for it.

9mm expert Lewis Curtis suspects that, owing to the larger 9mm bullet weight, there was no real need for a special 9mm carbine load.

So what we really need is someone with a 9mm carbine and the urge to shoot it

I would suggest a commercial brand of 9mm ammo from the 1920s for showing alongside a carbine.

For an Artillery (LP08), the WW1 boxes are the best option.

Any more proof just say so!I have never shot any of my lugers. Somedaye I find a shooter. Maybe an artillery!
