Chrome S/42G on gunbroker worth any money?

I am still looking for my first luger, there is a chrome luger on gunbroker till 9/03. stamp is S/42 G, which i believe is a mauser made in 1935? is it worth the price at auction (400+)?

personaly i would not pay that mutch for a chrome luger.

Good purchase price. If you are interested in the pistol, state so now. Then you should not place a bit until the remaining few minutes of the auction. That will help minimize the cost to you.
(Sounds like Russ is about to bid on the pistol!)

After you have purchased this gun, you must determine if the extra set of grips are antler or plastic. If they are antler, by federal law you must sell them to someone in Colorado, in order to avoid the penalty of 30 days in the electric chair.

THIS IS AMAZING! Some jerk has already robbed the pistol of its toggle assembly and side plate to match up the numbers.

Maybe I am wrong. The trigger is not chrome, the locking bolt also. The grip screws and the safety lever are also not chromed.

Buy the pistol.

The tobacco tin cleaning box, the oiler, and the pull through chain are for a K98 rifle. See page 328 of Law’s book. (Backbone of the Wehrmacht)

from reading older posts here, chrome lugers are chrome because some sent it away after the fact. non of them are factory finish. it seems to be it good condition and i am looking for just a shooter. i dont want ot pay the money if it isnt worth it, just incase i want to sell it later.

Heydrich, Yes the cleaning kit is for the K98 rifle but the Germans did away with the cleaning rod as this kit was also used for the P08. This was a replacement and intended for use with the Luger. Jerry Burney

In its present condition, this pistol will be worth the $400-$500 you will give for it. Take it out and run 100,000 rounds through it and the value will plunge somewhat.

If the side plate and toggles were chromed also and an e-mail from the seller said that the bore was in good shape, I would go to $500 on it, good shooters are starting to get hard to find for less.

A couple of weeks ago I reported two E. German reworks in a local shop priced at $600 each. Yesterday I decided to have a closer look as I only casually glanced at them before.

Only one remained and it may be a Russian capture and not E. German. It's a 1936 Mauser S/42, k block. Side plate and locking bolt are replacements. All other numbers match except for a replacement mag of dubious quality... plastic bottom and stamped blued body. The gun has been dip-blued, leading me to think it could be a Russian capture. There are no stamps to indicate that, however. All original markings are there.

The grips are black plastic with a broad border and sharp ridges running vertically top to botttom.

I might have been tempted except for two things: The bore was well-worn and heavily peppered with small pits between the lands plus the shop owner indicated that he had no interest whatsoever in reducing the price even a little. It would make a nice shooter if it had a decent bore. Still, $600 for a "shooter grade" Luger is hard to justify.

$600 too much for a shooter grade version? Well bloody hell, before I stumbled upon the nice little DWM puppy I got now, I almost considered buying one of Brock’s East German shooters. And the price was $799! Someone should have put a boot to my butt back then. Are any of these Brock’s reworks worth even close to these prices? Here is a photo of the one that I was interested in (a byf 41) that Brock sent me:
