how rare are lunch box lugers. by that i mean no dates, proffs no nothing

hey Kenny,

I sold one, could not get near as much as I believed it was worth, they are a specialty item, the right collector has to want one.

Not sure how 'rare' they are; it is always hard to judge if made up parts from an armorers kit or a true lunch box special. But you read about it every now and then and I have personally seen about 5, not counting yours the last 10 years in person and another 5 or 6 on the forums.

Pretty rare. Most lugers are not made from recycled old lunch boxes.

Legend has it that Jan Still himself stepped out of his icey Alaskan home one day a few years back and coined the term "lunchbox special".

Enough jokes.

Aaron Davis states in his usually maligned "Standard Catalog" that these lugers come from two sources: the lunchbox/sneaks, and:

"The second was more sinister than simple theft. The restriction on military pistol calibers imposed by the Versailles Treaty created a dilemma for DWM. There was an underground desire for pistols that could only legally be made by Simson. Yet their production was closely monitored. DWM (was) forbidden to make the Luger in 9mm Parabellum. Apparently, DWM either looked the other way, or even outright endorsed the practice as unmarked pistols found their way to users."

No source of this information is mentioned, not that any might exist for such a conspiracy. Comments?

He surmises that several thousand were likely manufactured.

Clark, this refers to the blank toggle, not ones without any acceptance markings. The 'sneak' lugers actually are from the Riffe contract and the DWM was left off.

Here is a post war Mauser Parabellum without serial number and proof markings. It was assembled post-1971 using parts that didn't make it into regular production.
