Navy holster
Need some help again....picked up a Navy holster last year at a local gunshow. Marked on the inside flap " Adolph Schwartz & Co., Berlin N.39, 1916". Appears to be pigskin, has a pebble finish. No other marking that I can find.Old stiching holes on the back shows that it was looped for a belt and has been converted to be fastened to a board stock. It came with a unmarked tool and cleaning rod.
Board stock stamped C/M at three places and the small metal disc is C/M also. The property number is N1592 and the serial number is 4216 it also has what appears to be the original screw, washer and leather boot strap. Any thoughts on these items ? |

Daniel, Your description leaves a little more to the imagination than not. Black, brown holster? Soft shell? tear drop flap? Brass or steel studs? 4" or 6"? Pigskin and pebble grain are two different animals. Pig has slots or dimples where the hair was taken off and the leather can stiffen, sort of akin to cardboard. Pebble grain is applied while the leather is wet to create a raised pebble effect. Man made. Generally this leather is softer. There should be no boot involved with this stock...Imperial Navy stock rigs did not have a boot or any attachment to cover the stock attaching metal. Someone has defaced your stock by boring a screw hole and attaching leather to it. I would like to see photo's of this rig if you can manage it. Enquiring minds want to know...Jerry Burney

Hello Jerry...answers to your questions :
-black in color, -soft shell, -tear drop flap, -steel stud, -6 inch in length, -pebble finish, no hair holes, -it's not defaced, how else are you going to hold the toe of the holster to the stock ? It looks just like your picture of a Navy rig -no digital camera, can scan, Best regards, Daniel Here are the pictures for Daniel, ebt: |

Hello Daniel,
A lovely ensemble! It appears to be unquestionably a combination of Imperial and Weimar Navy efforts. When you tire of it, drop me a note. I am certain we can strike a deal. Tom A. |

Danial, Right you are. You had mentioned a boot and I got carried away! There is a toe strap attached to attach stock to holster.
Seems you have a type 1 Imperial Navy holster. At some time it was converted to belt straps and converted back to stock carry configuration at a later date. The holster is indeed pebble grain leather. Quite a find my friend, now you need an Imperial navy Luger pistol for it! Many thanks all for the photo's. A real treat to see that these can still be found. Jerry Burney

Thanks to all for all the help, especially Edward. I do have a few Navies, but for this rig I'll mate a 1906 with it 'cause it has a property mark also.
