Unhappy Need to Refinish !!

Hello,

Sad !! We dont do that to nice P08s !!The 1939 year is the `` missing link `` in my III Reich P08 Collection. They are not scarce ( I know...) and `` usually `` both S/42 & 42 Code are `` easy `` to find !! But for me, it's close to a nightmare !! Each time I find one, it's not correct...whatever it is poor condition, mismatch, etc. Anyway, I got this one Very nice condition, all original parts S/42 pistol EXCEPT for a GREEN PHOSPHATE FINISH !!

I would like to know any recommendations as to remove this finish without much damage to the pistol's stampings underneath ?? A friend told me about `` chemically removing `` with specific purpose chemicals...Any recommendations ?? Pistol would then after undergo a rebluing and sit in the Collection as a restored piece till it can be upgraded....

Incredible how collecting can be frustrating sometimes There was no reason to go through this whole phosphate thing as there is no pitting, dents, or whatever...Pistol is in a great shape under this green.....( enough said )

Thanks for the help,

MARK

Hi Mark,

I know that blue can be removed with chemicals without harming the metal finish underneath, but I am afraid that I am ignorant of any chemical process that will do the same thing for "parkerizing"... or phosphate finishes...

Perhaps THOR or one of the other gunsmiths that is still active can comment.

Even if you can't remove it, it can still be a 'placeholder' in your collection till you find the 'right' one...
