Default Very nice Mauser Persian Artillery

Looks like a very nice Persian at a reasonable price range at the Rock Island Auction-Premiere Auction. Lot #3488.

Too bad you are selling this this nice Artillery Luger through RIA and getting caught up in the "Shattuck Lugers" that are owned and being auctioned by RIA.

Hi Robert, You really should disclose the fact that you have an ownership interest in this gun. Norm

Default Understood, Norm

Thank you Norm. I hope I haven't broken any rules or violated any forum-board ethics. I apologize if I have. I intend on adding simple photo essays in the future of various high quality pieces for display but also to indicate future availability through auction. I will omit the "availability at auction" in the essays but will refer back to them in the "trader section" as they become available. I am not a dealer, just private collector.

In the luger collecting field, the world is small for nice pieces. So, if you have commented on another forum, it is likely that someone will have noticed, if not a lot of people

Intriguing comment, megsdad...Do you mean the Persian owned by Robert may go for less than 'usual' since Shattuck's Lugers are on the same auction???

Perhaps Robert can explain the 'Iranian' connection mentioned on this auction...(I know Iran was part of Persia at one time, but what does this have to do with Lugers?)

Hi Rich, Iran was known as Persia prior to 1935. Regards, Norm

Robert's inclusion of 'Iran" begs the question [to me, at least] of whether there was some kind of Iranian connection, maybe an 'Iranian Contract' for Lugers...Post 1935...Not part of the original 'Persian' contract of 1000 or the later 980 as publicized by Walter...

If he said Iran instead of Persia, I don't think he's wrong and I think we can lighten up on the guy In fact, I have been looking for some Iranian lugers since I got here, as the border is 'this' close (see below, its a entering iran sign)

IMHO, a righteous luger is liable to go for more if included with some questionable items in my opinion?

I didn't intend to 'get down' on Robert; in fact, I have entered a sealed bid on it already...

I was interested in knowing if the "Iranians"/or the Shah had another order besides what is commonly referred to as "Persian" Lugers...That is, the original contract/contracts...Some say 1929, some say 1935...

I truly don't know?

What year did Persia become Iran? If after the Shah took over, then technically wouldn't they be Iranian lugers, as I have heard several stories of them being given as gifts to officers (no idea if true, you know how stories are)...

Ed -

Here's what I just got from Wikipedia...

Iran (Listeni /ɪˈrɑːn/ or /aɪˈræn/;[7] Persian: ایران; [ʔiˈɾɒn] ( listen)), officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in Central Eurasia and Western Asia.[8][9] The name "Iran" has been in use natively since the Sassanian era and came into use internationally in 1935, before which the country was known to the western world as Persia.[7][10] Both "Persia" and "Iran" are used interchangeably in cultural contexts; however, "Iran" is the name used officially in political contexts.[11][12] The name "Iran" is a cognate of "Aryan", and roughly means "land of the Aryans".[13]

Whoa!!! Aryans???

Yes, the German ideologists of the nazi regime considered that region to be the basis of the western European civilization on which they built their rediculous ideologies.

They pooped on history as well as on politics, decency, common sense and general good taste.

Hello Postino,

To answer your questions: Sadly, although I forwarded an "Inventory List" to RIA with an accurate and detailed description of this piece, RIA used it's own descriptions of which I understand their need to do so. I am grateful that they included it in the flyer catalog and have given the piece it's due in the final description. If you will notice, in the flyer they also described it as being a "DWM" manufacture?

No, I am of the understanding that the "Persian Contract" was solicited, drawn, and secured on the books before the country's name change (1935-6) was put into effect by the first Pahlavi (Reza Shah). However, regarding the execution of the contract (delivery) the 4" P-08 was delivered to "Persia", the artillery was delivered to "Iran".

For good detail info on this, please refer to page 178 "Third Reich Lugers" by Jan C. Still

Thanks

Robert
