Need help with Swiss grips

Greetings,
I recently acquired a Luger that is, for the most part, a shooter. It does have however, a very attractive sets of grips. I have been of the opinion that any grips (except plastic grips) with a screw hole on the back side is a dead give away for after market grips. These grips however appear to have been on this Luger a very long time. Can anyone tell me if they are origianal Swiss of just a nice pair of aftermarket?

Only the right grip has the screw hole, which is almost assuredly evidence of the Italian made aftermarket grips. I have always found these grips to be of very high quality and if it wasn't for the screw hole it would be hard to tell them from original. Of course, the left grip doesn't have the screw hole, but an original Swiss 06 W+F bordered grip would be cut for a grip safety.

Please describe what you mean by "screw hole" I don't see any holes which would fit the description of screw hole which I have in mind.

It is a small wood screw used to hold the grip to a base, probably for checkering.

Mike, I agree with Don, that if these were original Swiss, the left grip would be cut for the grip safety and that the hole in the right side (I would not call it a "screw hole") was from the checkering jig. I wish that I could still order some of these Italian repros. TH

I have a pair of these Italian grips and the holes on the back appear to match up with Mike's grips. Maybe the hole on Mike's left grip has been filled in?
