Default luger (beginner)

I have a luger that was taken off a nazi soldier in WWII. It has a date on top 1938. It has S/42 on top. The serial number is 1802. All the seperate pieces have a marking of 02 on them. It appears to be in good condition and has a leather carrying holster. I am wondering if anyone knows the value of this piece? Thanks Mark

Welcome to the Lugerforum Mark. The value of your Luger can vary a great deal depending on condition. And also the condition of the accessories. For instance, if the holster is a reproduction it is only worth $25-35 ... but if it is genuine from the same time as the Luger, it could be worth hundreds of dollars.

Do the numbers on the magazine bottoms match the serial number of the Luger? That will also make a large difference.

The amount of original finish left will also be a factor, as will the fact that the gun may or may not have been refinished since it left the German soldier's possession. All these variables affect the collector's value of your Luger rig.

Can you post some good quality clear photographs of both sides, the top, and the front of the frame under the barrel for the forum to evaluate? if you can, we can give you a pretty fair value for you Luger.

Without photographs, or a personal examination of the gun, and its accessorites, the best we can do is bracket your value between say $350 and $1500 dollars. If you want it closer than that, we have to see the gun.

A regular gun dealer will give you a ball park and many times be waaay high or waaaay low. Usually way high.

If it is a reblue, pitted, mismatched parts, halve that amount.

Pictures and a much better description would help us to help you.
