Default Belt for Holster ?

Is there a difinitive source out there on what type(s) of belts were used with the various holsters that are around ?

I am interested in WW I particularly as I have a 1916 Luger & holster.

Any info gladly accepted.

Allen, The belt most commonly worn with WW1 era Luger holsters was the brass or steel box buckle with the Gott Mit Uns and Crown. Available on Ebay any day of the week.
Of course there might be other combinations but this one is a good bet...Jerry Burney

Jerry,

Can you tell me if officer vs enlisted had different buckles & belts ?

Also, by TO & E who carried lugers, NCOs & officers ?

In 1914 officers were required to purchase their sidearms and had a variety of weapons to choose from. Issue of P08's to the ranks varies greatly depending upon the type of unit. Cavalry units typically issued P08's to NCOs and buglers. Infantry to NCOs and artillery, medical and MG units to just about everybody.

Enlisted buckles were as described by Jerry a box buckle for foot troops and for mounted troops such as Train, Field Artillery and Cavalry an open faced buckle. Officers wore either an open faced officer type or a two piece buckle much like that worn by US officers prior to 1900.

Allen,

To expand on George's comment, sidearms were issued to troops whose duties made it impractical for them to commonly carry a rifle--think bicycle messengers, etc.
