Default K Date

Got the K today, not entirely correct but for a VOPO I am entirely happy with it. Mechanically excellent and a VG Bore. It is an early variation by serial but it has the set back front sight and NO BUMP. It has those script Ss on darn near every part. I have not been able to put it down all day. The gun was in much better shape that I had thought it would be. Dipped blued but I am going to fix that. O with Dots over it & 37 acceptance stamps, Droop Wing Eagle proof marks and O 37 on the left barrel also. The S/42 is in Script S. I think of the Vopos, the K dates, 41/42 and Police Lugers were the most desirable, at least to me. The price of the others was a little high but I do believe prices of all Lugers is rising, especially the shooter grades. Thor

Thorster, are there any distinguishing marks on it that indicates that it is VOPO? Such as added proofs, etc? Where did you find it?

I was lucky getting in first pickins, seldom happens to me! I was lucky, I have wanted a first variation for quite a few years now. Those little script Ses are so cool!

1. Cut 1/2" out of the middle of the frame grip and weld back together, grind off stock lug & lanyard loop; clean up and polish weld & grind areas.

2. Cut 1/2" out of the middle of each grip panel, epoxy back together and rechecker; or make new grips.

3. Remove bbl from frame & cut front sight band off end of bbl, this will shorten bbl to approximately 3", turn end of bbl and ream sight band until they are a slip fit, then weld or solder, being sure that sight is aligned properly. Then remount bbl.

4. Shorten mainspring guide to fit frame, either cut proper amount from middle and weld; or cut top off and rebend new hook.

5. Shorten mainspring so that it will fit in frame and still function action correctly.

6. Taper front of frame rails.

7. Grind down toggle knobs until they are width of the frame & rechecker.

8. Shorten magazine and spring to fit frame properly, radius end of mag, weld up bottom of slot for thumb piece which is now openended and re-install bottom by drilling new holes for retaining pin.

9. Put it all together and fire for correct functioning.

10. Fine tune to correct malfunctions.

11.Polish & reblue

After proof reading all of the above, I realize what a job it is and that I am not charging enough! Expect price to increase!
