Need some Help with a Swiss Luger

Hi Bill,

As Ed has said, we would be very curious to see photos of your piece and accessories.

Typically, a Swiss luger will have a 4-3/4" barrel and be chambered in .30 cal (7.65 mm); yours may have been rebarreled at some point in time.

If your gun's entire serial number is "45"...that would be most rare. Is there a longer serial number which just ends with the last two digits of "45" ?

The serial numbers of all the Swiss luger are well documented in several books...let us know the entire serial number and we can look it up for you...

A 32-round drum magazine (aka TM-08) belongs with an Artillery luger. If this TM-08 is real (i.e. not a repro) and in good shape; they have been selling in the $ 1000 to 1300 price range...so you might want to sell that separately.

The only numbers I can find are 45 which are in the back and on the side of the frame. It has the short barrel. My father got this in trade during the war from a prisoner. I will try to get some picture so you guys can see the pistol. As far as what I know it has never been touched or changed. The drum magazine does fit it but I do not think it came with this pistol. Thanks so far for the information this helps me a lot. I will get some pictures so you can identify this pistol. I have looked for the longer serial number I just don't see one. The action on this gun is very tight and the machine work is unreal. The swiss really made a nice gun.

I have looked all over the pistol and everywhere there is a number its 45. Its on the back of the gun and just under the barrel and on the side of the gun where the grip safety is and everywhere else its just a 45 stamp. I can't find a 4 digit code on the gun.

The drum magazine which I do not think came with the pistol has the serial 358377 It has the cover which fits over the clip at he tall end of the drum. I think this drum would be nice to find itself whit a collection that used this drum magazine.

The drum, also called a trommel magazine were for artillery lugers, although sometimes used by other guns, but I can about guarantee you that it was not issued with your gun.

Somemore photos would really help us ID your luger...

If your pistol has the old-model, dished toggles, is the long frame model, and is only serialed "45", it may well be the 45th. luger made for the Swiss by DWM in the M1900 run. With such a low serial number, it would most likely have the un-relieved (i.e. uncut) frame for the thin magazine follower button.

p.s. Could you tell us if the width of the grip safety is only 1/2 the width of the rear grip strap or does the width go all the way across the width of the rear grip strap ?

Pete and everyone I will get some more pictures and send them by email to yawl. I will get close up's and all views so it will be easier to identify. ItÃ¢??s really exciting to get some history on this pistol. I have to admit I am getting Lugar fever. LOL I have a P38 thatÃ¢??s my favorite and I shoot it at the range ever so often. The P38 was a gift from a Waffen SS Major that captured my Father who let the Major try out his knife. The P 38 is the only weapon that my father told me he took someoneÃ¢??s life to escape. He told me of the skeleton ring that the Major wore on his right hand. My father was an Airborne Ranger and was on a mission in France to contact the resistance there. My father never really like to talk much of war and killing so we never really knew just how good of a solider dad was till after he died. My fathers favorite German pistol was the broom handled Mauser which I have [edited by Admin-JS].
