Default Opinions on cleaning original grips

I just wanted an opinion across the board. I have been reading up on the proper method to clean wood grips to remove the years of oil and grime on my pistols. But part of me wants to leave them as they are.

How many of you actually clean your grips and do you only do it on certain weapons.

Will doing this hurt the value or collectability?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Wayne, i do it whenever the grips are especially dirty, not if they are worn like the rest of the gun. Some guns are decent and the grips are oil filled and nasty and those are the ones I worry about.

It's a common question, asked periodically, and usually elicits [like that word?] some unusual cleaning methods...

I just cleaned my 1900AE grips with lacquer thinner and an M16 toothbrush; when they were dry, I gave them a coat of BLO, waited 15 - 20 minutes, wiped the excess off, buffed them a bit, and they look pretty much the same except the wood shows through now...
