Default Training Luger?

I saw posted from Legacy Collectibles a "very rare Mauser training Luger" for sale. It seems to me to be just a mismatched pistol. Is this really a rare type of Luger or just a selling gimmick sort of like the "Black Widow"? Seems like a lot of money 28 hundred, for a mismatched pistol.

3/25/21 - This is a nice example of a very rare Mauser training Luger. The chamber is marked "Ub" for "Ubungswaffe" or "drill practice weapon". The general consensus among collectors is that these guns were put together from scrap parts and used by the Mauser factory to train employees on how to shoot the luger properly. They are very rare. The gun is all matching, but most parts have been re-numbered by the factory to match. There are unit markings on the front strap - we are not sure of the meaning. It has retained about 70% of its original finish. The straps are bare. There is minor wear on the side plate and high edges of the slide and frame. Thinning on the left side of the frame. Comes with excellent wood grips and a mismatched period-correct magazine. The bore is near-mint.

Yes, "Ub" lugers are a legit variation.

Ah OK I just never have heard of them before, but they still seem to me just a mismatched nothing special Luger, even if they were used to train factory workers in the use of the pistol, especially if you can buy a mismatch for a third of that asking price!

Then perhaps consider another collecting area....

Lugers with a factory use provenance are rarer than hen's teeth and cannot be compared to ordinary shooter grade pistols.

Don’t get me wrong, I get it but for the factory use proof that parts pistol becomes a more valuable collectible. See it all the time on “Antiques Roadshow” someone brings an item in that they bought at a flea market for $10 and the appraiser finds a proof or signature and suddenly that $10 item is worth 10 thousand! I will continue collecting Lugers I just probably won’t compete for that type of pistol but absolutely respect a collector’s decision who does want them!
