I have purchased one of these fakes in the past year and it was soaked in shellack making it stiff as an oak plank. To explain what might be considered stupidity, the photo was switched. The Ebay seller showed an original photo and sent the phony. Thankfully it was a screwup and the seller refunded my money with an apology. Great guy, Jerry Burney

This is a litttle puzzling to me. It seems to me that, in the past on this forum, that the snail drum holder was shown in WW2 pictures to be more like a bag. Somewhat like a womans purse with shoulder straps. This holder looks to be more Americanish in appearance with those buttons. Were there different legit holders styles for the snail drum? Just visually looking at this holder, I can't imagine how an extremely odd shaped snail drum could fit into it. It seems like it would be more suited for a ping pong paddle.

Norm, It does inflate, take the shape of the drum, fold around it so to speak. It looks different when it is shown flat. The drum is loose and comes out the large end. Not like the fake leather covers you see from time to time.
The buttons are quite dished. I believe they are the same ones used on German Zeltbahns.

thanks for the reply. I don't see it. But if you say so, then I believe it. I just looked at Stills book "Imperial Lugers" page 116 and I kinda see what you are saying. Not a great picture... but better than a sharp stick in the eye. Must have been very uncomfortable for a solder to carry.

Next question...whats a German Zeltbahn? Is that some kinda beer?

Norm, Yes I would say they were cumbersome to say the least! Heavy too. But in trench fighting they must have been handy. A zeltbahn is a shelter half.
