Post April Reno Gun Show...

It may be a bit too early for folks to think about the April 23, 24, 25 Reno gun show, but hotels are filling up :

http://www.bigrenoshow.com/

The Reno Hilton is sold out, even through Hotels.com and others.

The Peppermill still has rooms at $ 109 for Friday night, direct on their web site :

http://www.peppermillreno.com/home/testres.html

Hope we have a good Luger Forum showing...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete,

I am going to be there at the Reno Show on Friday and Saturday. I am staying at the Atlantis Resort Casino. I booked my room a couple of weeks ago and there was not a single room available at the Hilton. Looking forward to seeing you and other Luger forum members at the show. It was a real treat for me to meet a number of the forum members at the last August show. I will be on the prowl for a K or G date Luger as well as some Axis pistols.

Thanks, Russ...I was hoping you would offer...

It is always nice to be able to find a chair for a few mintues at Russ' area and it frees him to walk the floor and do more shopping...

I cannot remember who's "turn" it is to host dinner...Jim Elson and I had the last honor...

If the group gets big, which is typical for April, maybe our Friday night dinner should be "dutch"...?

Regards,

Pete...

I had no trouble booking my room about 10 days ago. The reservation clerk didn't give me the impression that rooms were getting tight...unless all hell broke loose within the past ten days! In any event, I will be there Friday and Saturday. Our "traditional" dinner will be Friday night, I presume. Will we go "dutch" this time? As usual, looking forward to being with you guys and sharing luger lore.

Made my reservations about 3 weeks ago, Hilton had no room for just Friday but OK for Thurs & Friday. Wifey is happy - she'll at least get to see me on Thursday! "Dutch" is OK with me.

See ya there,

Jim

Hint for rooms. Whereever you book, ask for the 'casino rate'. The 'gun show rate' is a full list.
Best!

Try the Sands Regency downtown, nice rooms, several dining places, fair, fairly easy to get to the Hilton once you figure out how to do it, decent prices, but don't wait too long.

Hi, I am a newby to luger collecting as having recently retired and time for things other than work.I currently have a byf42 and a cyq p38. I do feel the addiction rising to know more and acquire more. I thank you for posting about the Reno gun show and have made arrangements to go to find out more. Since I have never been to a gun show I was wondering what to expect there and if it is a good place to acquire or just learn? Thanks for all the information presented in the forum. See you there Curt

Curt, the Reno Show (I've attended only once) has almost every type of gun you can imagine and prices are high to low.

Good place to go and see what is available, but don't expect most gun shows to look like this in any regard. Only larger ones have lots of guns, most have a few guns, and none to a hand ful of Lugers. Learning is great if you know someone and meet them, but not the best place to learn by your self or trying to get info from others who are busily looking for new guns

So, forums such as this is a great place to learn, buy as many books as you can afford (but searching this site is free **although I think every member should send John Dunkle $25.00 annually to help out with costs**

Hello Curt,

Since you are a Californian, you well may know how pitiful our gun shows have become.

The Reno show always has a good luger-turnout...sometimes 80-100+ lugers for sale or display. Many with big dealers but others 1-3 on a table with private folks.

The Luger Forum group arrives very early on Friday morning at show opening time. We all get together for dinner at the Steak House in the Hilton (where the show is held) on Friday night. You are certainly welcomed to join us !

LF member Russ Withem and his friend Ken Coyle normally have some tables in the A-4 area (I think...Russ correct me if I am incorrect...).

If you enter the show, you can get a map and vendor table locating list to find the table area...

The nice thing about bigger shows with lots of luger...you can see some obvious refinished lugers next to original finish lugers...sometimes the refinished pieces are being offered as "original".

One vendor normally has 20-30 pistols...all with the same, identical blackish finish even though his lugers can span nearly 80 years of manufacturing from several diffent luger makers....and he gets insulted if you ask if they are refinished...which of course they are...

The show has also been very good for locating luger accessories such as take-down tools, cleaning rods, magazines, grips, holsters and even luger books.

I always come with a luger shopping list but find myself buying a pistol at every show that is not even a luger.

See you at the show !

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

I guess I am lucky, only living 50 minutes away from the Reno Show, so I don't have to hassle with reservations. I am looking forward to meeting some of the Forum people, and looking at all the Lugers. It is the best show I have ever been to.
