Post Germany Stamped Erfurt P-08...?

Why would this military pistol be "Germany" stamped...

Pete; I have one of these, and I believe they were exported to the US after World War 1.

you will often come accross vintage wwi weapons in the US with "Germany" stamped upon them. Recently I saw a 1916 DWM LP08 with this stamp. I've read Germany was exporting these wwi small arms into the 1920's to raise much needed capital.
