You have a very desirable "G" date Luger, which sadly, is mismatched. The entire toggle train is off a "BYF" Luger which is not original to your gun. Both your magazines have smashed bases, which indicate that they were plastic and not original to the gun either. This also detracts from your rig. Are there any markings you can see on the magazines?
The holster looks ok, but more photos of the entire holster would be needed for an assesment. The holster may be original to the gun.
The gun's finish looks thin, but original, which is a plus. There is a slim possibility of finding a matching, "G" date toggle, which would increase the value.
It is still a very desirable shooter rig, woth perhaps $1,200 or so.

I moved your posting to the New Collector area, as a price is required to post in the for sale area, as per the RULES.

Thanks Alanit for the info. I was afraid that the center firing mec. was not the original to the gun. Were could I find the correct? Can you tell me anything about the G code what years was it produced? Thanks Scott

You might find a correct toggle assembly but the pistol would still be mismatched(serial numbers). Is the barrel matching with the frame? It looks like 1390 and not 5390. The G date Lugers represent the year 1935. If you have a desire to fix the magazines, G.T. on this site could probably take care of you.

Hi Scott,
Your magazines are desirable "FXO", (Haenel) magazines but have seen some abuse. Contact GT, (Gerald Tomik) here on the site to have the bases replaced with almost exact replicas. The holster is in very nice shape and would be worth $200-$250+ on its own. Do a search of "G" date Lugers here on the site. Your Mauser G Date was made in 1935, when the Nazis still felt it was important to hide when and by whom the pistol was made. The 1936 holster is possibly the original issue to the gun. An entirely correct and matching toggle train would be a real stretch to find, but nothing is impossible.

andwaahs, I don't know if there are any markings on the takedown tool. I am having my carpet cleaned tomorrow so I have everything packed in one room and it is all in front of my safe. I will get it out this weekend and take a look at it after I get all my furniture put back. Thanks

It almost never hurts to sell things seperately..almost always helps you to sell actually. Not many guys want to shell out $1000-1200 in one wad for one item they want and a couple they don't.

If I were selling this I would sell the magazines for $50 each, the holster for $300 and the pistol for $700 for a total of $1100. You MIGHT squeeze a little more here and there..
Not much more cause the pistol..while interesting as a G date it's still a shooter worth a shooter price. Reason you can seperate the mags from the pistol is cause like Doug says they are not period to it anyway and you need a $35 MecGar mag for a shooter.
OH! forgot the tool..If it's marked say Eagle 655 it's worth another C note. No marking..$35.00 a more interesting and rare mark..More $$

Thanks Jerry I just didn't want to sell my holster if it is possible that it was the original to the gun. I am starting to get more interested in trying to find the S/42 toggle and trying to make it a numbers mathching gun. I am 32 so I think I might have enough time to find one before I die. My grandpa brought this Luger back from WWII I am not sure about how and when. I didn't get to talk to him about it. I joined the Marine Corps when I was 18 and sadly my grandpa passed away when I was 21 so I was still inlisted. So we really didn't get to share any kind of war stories. I am going to ask my dad about it, it was his dad's. Thanks. Scott

So I couldn't wait to get the carpet cleaned to get into my safe so I moved everything last night. The barrel has the same numbers as the rest of the body 5390. What does the what looks like and A above the trigger guard stand for? Andwaahs there is a Eagle with the downward wings on the takedown tool, that is all I see. On my toggle when I **** the gun the pin in the rear is stamped with the 90 serial number is that part of the toggle? Or is it just a pin? Let me know if anyone finds a toggle that would match my luger. Thanks Scott

Scott..Yes..if that were the case I would try to hang onto it myself. Finding matching numbers is a quest..good thing you are young! Actually harder to do than you might think. Gives you something to look for though!

One other thing..even if you do find a matching number toggle train..It has to be the right one..Then it will not be the one it came with. So it will never be really matching. Only sort of.

Thanks for your service...

What does the what looks like and A above the trigger guard stand for? This a part of the serial number, called a suffix.( 5390 a ) is the actual whole serial number.

The tool with downward swept wings is likely an eagle 63 look closely under the eagle.

Most but not all G dates were made by Mauser and Mauser serialed this toggle pin so that is correct for your pistol.

Scott, you have gotten excellent advice. Keeping a family heirloom seems the best to do. You may well regret having parted with any of the items.
Only you can decide.
Don't make the wrong decision.
