A long time ago, I determined that serial numbers without the essential related data only provides an avenue to get a collector of this data in trouble. The 1937-S/42 is a good example. There were three major transitions in 1937. Number one, the change from the straw small parts to the all blue small parts. Indicate this with the serial number (blue or straw).Number two, the no hump to the hump (does your pistol have the Mauser hump). Keep in mind that some pistols with straw small parts have the Mauser hump (please indicate). And three the change in the magazine acceptance in the - r - block from the DE-63 to the SE-63. If this data is not presented, all we have is serial numbers and absolutly no way to present these changes to collectors. Hopefully you guys who are presenting the serial numbers will provide this additional information. I collect serial numbers also and need this information to make accurate comments. Thanks

As usual at my age I always seem to forget something. The forth area of interest in the 1937-S/42 Luger production is the change from the DE-63 Inspector to the SE-63 Inspector. My records lead me to believe this acceptance mark transition started in the - u - block and continued well into the - a - block. It's my opinion this change is very important to the serious collector. Fact is, if we look hard enough, 1937 military Lugers can be found with a SE-63 DE-63 combination of Inspectors. Good Luck

You have for years stood on the sidelines and made suggestions on how Forum members were doing it all wrong in collecting Mauser Luger data (you made similar comments on the GLCPAP Forum years ago). I know that you have a huge collection of Mauser Lugers. However, in all this time I have never observed you supply data (specific Luger information) to the members of this Forum or the German Luger Central Powers and Axis Pistols Forum.

If you can do such a superior job I encourage you to set up your own table complete with your criteria for data entry here on this Forum. Get in the trenches and do a little work instead of sniping from the sidelines. The collectors on this forum are very interested in Mauser Lugers and will be helpful in supplying data. I look forward to your Mauser Luger data table on this Forum.
Thanks
Jan

Jan

Thank you very much for your kind words. Jan, I have always appreciated your keen ability to attempt a little character assassination here and there. You worry to much, many of your followers still believe your the Luger King!! Also please keep in mind that "Jan Still" may be big time, but there still is a little room in Luger collecting for few others.

Now for some facts..First of all I have provided information to Luger collectors for many many years, as you remember I helped you a great deal while you were writing "Third Reich Lugers" and later books. Fact is, you came to my home and stayed for three days taking pictures and discussing Lugers. Obvously, I had something to offer at the time.

Just because I fail to provide you with any Luger information; doesn't mean that I just set around and steal information from your website. As you can see, I really didn't like your accusation and assumptions. I have provided information and related data to hundreds of collectors, via the Postoffice and email. Just today I mailed out six packets of magazine data and Mauser Luger information. Chances are I will get more numbers for the "master magazine list" hopefully several more Mauser Luger serial numbers. Jan, I just don't want to become involved in your "pushing contest". In addition, I rather doubt that I will be asking your permission to continue my research anytime in the near future. Maybe some of the guys that I have helped in the last 30 years will stand up and be counted. On the other hand; I suppose to disagree with you might get one removed from "Gunboards. My email address is < drh@oz.net > in the event you want to send some more of your famous criticism

Actually, I didn't realize you were the owner of the Luger Forum; I'll make every effort to "read only" in the future. As for collecting Luger data, I'm also many years ahead of you on that issue too. I was searching for Luger serial number data in the early 1960's Once in awhile there is a number on your list that Is not already recorded in my file. I see numbers on your list that could have only came from me in a round about way. I also see a lot of information posted that could have only been a result of my research. Information passed on as a result of data mailed to other collectors. I certainly wouldn't send you a nasty note indicating you should do your own homework.

In the future, I will continue to provide any information needed by Luger collectors, just as I have in the past. If Mr Still realized how much information that I provide collectors, he wouldn't post such nasty comments. Besides Jan, one day you will see all of my numbers. Good Luck.

Default My 1937 S/42

All numbers matching, except the magazine, has the serial # 6659u.
Markings: 3 eagles.
1st eagle 63, 2nd eagle 63, (those two eagles are sligthly different), 3rd eagle has large wings and no number.

Jan:
Please pardon the intrusion, but I've been trying to get in touch with you about a different luger. Please see your private message.

Thanks.

I'm correcting my previous data (see above). The first acceptance mark seems to be SE/63 but a closer look shows it is SE/83.

So:
1938 S/42, SE/83, SE/63, MTP, sn 2444i, no matching mag (still searching for one).
