you over paid

OK, we got that over with I think the price might be high, but thats only because its not what I collect. If you get, are happy, then what the heck, you can never go wrong with a luger

Zormpas, congratulations on a good looking Mauser Luger.

It is hard to judge the finish from the photographs due to the lighting.

As you've surely read, many of us do not recommend shooting all matching original finish Lugers because of the potential for damaging an original numbered part. Your results may vary.

I particularly like these Mauser made Lugers for their precision and tight fit. They display a mechanical "art" that couldn't be reproduced today for many times what they cost.

From what I can see, it looks like you did well. Looking forward to your pictures. As you know, use natural shaded (soft) sunlight for illumination; a tripod and close focus mode on the camera.

A "first Luger" is a wonderful thing. Whether you overpaid or not really doesn't matter at this point in time. It is a done deal. You will learn from it(breakdown, cleaning, lubing, springs), and perhaps be very frustrated if it is not 100% reliable, but you will still be very proud of it, and it will make you smile. In a very short timeframe, you will forget about the price that you paid, and just get on with the fun of owning one....my $.02

That is correct. It is reported to be 100% reliable and functional - I hope so and we'll see - the previous owner supposedly wanted more of an "every day" mixed parts example. I'm not planning on shooting it very much, just "a little once in a while".

In other news, when I went to my local FFL, they had a C96 in the case - so I got to handle that. Looked decent overall - reblued over some pitting on one side. Cool gun, but I'm just not jonesing for one. $1200.

The gun has arrived at my LGS - went down today for an inspection. Bore looks brand new to my inexperienced eye. The only real fault I could find was a tinsy crack on the RH grip at the top - I think a bit of carefully applied CA glue will fix that invisibly. The GSG (Gun Shop Guys) all thought it was a nice piece. It took both me and the counter guy a couple of minutes to figure out that the safety needs to be off before the toggle will retract!

Now there's just the waiting period, and it'll be all mine!

It's not the same Luger in your first post, isn't it? That one has been relisted a few times, and it's still listed on gunbroker.com. Or, is the "LGS" the seller and you visited his store?? I am confused.

Different from 1st post; this is from Trey's Clays a dealer I have dealt with in the past and have no complaints...

What Postino said. The LGS is my receiving FFL. Sorry for the confusion.

Its now "out of jail" and in my possession. Due to an upcoming house fumigation, it'll probably be a couple of weeks before I can get the lightbox setup and take some better pix of it.

In the meantime, I'm stoked!

Got 'er home and took a good look. I'm very happy thus far. I ran two mags worth of snap caps through it - at one point the magazine decided to get stuck - I had to field strip the weapon to get it out. It didn't happen again. Since I was taking it apart - and THANX MUCH for the EXCELLENT videos on this subject, I actually looked like I knew what I was doing - I also removed the grips to see if they are numbered. They are not, although there are some interesting marks inside one of them, some kind of printing and someone wrote "something" on the inside as well. I'll be sure to take good pix of this when I do my photo session. I also repaired the micro-crack in the RH grip while I was at it.

Went back together without a hitch!
