I have this and it is superb! Not really a movie, but the actual film from ametuers in the German Army. They also give a nice commentary of the scenes they have shot. This is real life that the German Soldier wanted to keep, not any Hollywood bunk. Shows mostly the Eastern Front with combat scenes and camp scenes. This film is well worth buying!

Marvin, how much is just talking and how much has actually battle footage? Any Lugers or P.38s? Ted

Ted,

The footage is approx. 70% with the rest being the actual soldier who took the film discussing what Happened. During the film footage, an explanation is going on so you know what the solder is thinking. This film is GOOD!

Ted...Went to see "Enemy at the gates", last night. Frankly, my personal opinion is that "Cross of Iron" from twenty years back was much better. Far to much "Hollywood" involved in the story. Don't want to spoil it for anyoneÃ?Â*who hasn't see the film yet, so won't go into all that. It is an excellent picture, and well worth seeing for the WWII fan. Special effects are superb.

Walt, I liked both, but probably lean towards EATG. The COI had trench fighting, fighting in the woods and street/factory fighting. The EATG held me spell bound through much of the movie, COI, didn't IMO. Ted

Both were good movies, but I agree with Ted. I want to see "Enemy at the Gates" again and can't wait until it comes out on DVD. Sometimes I enjoy a movie the second or third time more than the first. I often notice things I didn't the first time.

All of this talk about war movies has got me ready to place another order with Amazon. War movies are what started my interest in WW II more than 25 year ago. Some of my favorites in no particular order are: A Bridge too Far, Midway, The Longest Day, The Battle of the Bulge, Kelly's Heroes, Slaughterhouse Five, Where Eagles Dare, Operation Crossbow, The Great Escape, Saving Private Ryan, The Dirty Dozen, Cross of Iron, The Big Red One, Guns of Navarone, Force Ten from Navarone, Bataan, Stalingrad and Enemy at the Gates. I can't wait to see Pearl Harbor, scheduled for release Memorial Day. Remember the old TV shows "Combat!" and "Rat Patrol"?

Matt, what a list! I second the motion! My favorite is Where Eagles Dare! How about "A Bridge too Far" and "Bridge at Remagan", two more of my favorites! Havent seen "Heros of the Telemark" in many years! "The Eagle has Landed" is another. A funny WWII spoof that I ALWAYS enjoy is "1941" Slim Pickens in the Japenese Sub REALLY cracked me up! "Dr Strangelove". "The Young Lions", "Night of the Generals", "Triple Cross", "Stalag 17", "Battle Ground", "The Devils Brigade" "Raid on Rommel" "Tobruk", "Das Boot", and on and on! Ted

Great choices Ted! Many of the ones on your list I plan to buy. I've about worn out my "Where Eagles Dare" tape (love the soundtrack too.) I bought "The Eagle has Landed" on DVD a couple of weeks ago. I saw "Midway" (1976) and "A Bridge too Far" (1977) on the big screens when I was a kid and they remain two of my favorites, especially "A Bridge too Far." I haven't heard of "Heros of the Telemark," Triple Cross" or "The Young Lions." I'll have to look for those. Think I'll place an order now.

How about "Hell is for Hero's", "Patton" and "Torro Torro Torro"?

When I was in high school I wanted to see "Hell is for Hero's" but my buddy didn't want to go. Since we both liked war movies I couldn't understand why he didn't want to see this one. His reason, "Audy Murphy is too little to be a hero."! Go figure!!!!
