Default Lugers in Movies

How about this one? Any Lugers in this movie? I haven't seen it yet? Ted

I don't know about the movie but the main character in the book carries a Luger.

Ted,

If I can remember correctly, "Schindler's List" has a bunch in it, especially the camp commander (Ralph Finnes?) has a jammed one when trying to shoot the old man when he couldn't make hinges fast enough. A Luger jam? unheard of!

While we're on the subject of war movies, one I recommend is "Operation Crossbow" starring George Peppard. I don't recall if there is a Luger in it (there are P38s and MP40s) but it is an excellent movie about the German V1 "buzz bomb" and V2 rocket programs. Most of the Germans scenes have German dialogue with English subtitles, which I like. Ever notice how the same German actors turn up in war movies from the 1960s and 70s? "Operation Crossbow" has two actors (don't recall their names) who were in "Where Eagles Dare."

"Stalingrad" is one of the BEST German ww2 films I've seen. It's in all German, with English subtitles. It was done recently (past 5 years) by the same director that made "Das Boot". Pretty much, a German perspective WW2 film, on the eastern front.

Not sure how many lugers are in the film however. But so what, it's got Tanks running soldiers over! That qualifies it to be an instant classic IMHO

In The Manchurian Candidate, when the brainwashed members of the captured US patrol are being displayed on the stage to the assembled audience of Communist officials, the prisoner who shoots another prisoner as a demonstration uses a Luger.

There are a few scences at the end with Lugers in them! The version I saw was all dubbed in English. Enemy at the Gates is also about the Stalingrad battle. Ted

Finished "The First Deadly Sin" Not the greatest movie, but I did enjoy it. The Luger appeared at the last part and had a big part in ending the movie. I am watching "Fatherland" now and the uniforms are cool. Haven't seen a Luger yet. Ted

Hello Bryan,

It might be that memory thing again, but my recollection is that the pistol used by the Laurence Harvey (?) character to execute the American soldier was a P38... I remember thinking that the P38 was a strange and somewhat inconsistent choice given that he probably would have been captured with a 1911A1, but I would not put any money on it...

Best regards,

Bob

Gorky Park is a movie with a Luger in it. It is not a war movie, but a murder mystery from the early eighties set in Moscow. It starred Wiliam Hurt and Lee Marvin, and I recall it as quite a good movie.

Renko, the William Hurt character, borrowed a Luger from a friend who cautioned him that it might not shoot straight or even work as it was officially issued to him in his capacity as public defender. It of course functions well enough to send the one of the corrupt bad guys to a higher court.

I also recall that some of old Alfred Hitchcock TV movies had Lugers in them on occassion, but I can't begin to recall the names of any of the episodes.

Best regards,

Bob

Bob, you're probably right about it being a P38. It's been a while since I saw the movie, and I definitely remember thinking that the pistol used seemed odd for the time and place.

They say that memory is the second thing to go, and I can't remember what the first thing was ;-)

"Fatherland" with Rutger Hauer had lots of P38s in it, but in the beginning Rutger was definetly carring a Luger, or perhaps a P38 in a brown Luger holster. Two brief shoot outs at the end of the movie with P38s on both sides. One a scale of 1-10 I would give this movie a 3.5, but I would give them P38s a 10. Ted

MOTHER NIGHT with Nick Nolte was HORRIBLE, only a brief Luger and P38 at the end of the movie. On a scale of 1-10, a zero IMO. Don't waste your time on this one. Ted

If I recall correctly, there is a Luger in it used by a resistance leader to shoot Sophia Loren in the chest. I honestly do not recall which part of the screen I was watching more closely.

It wasn't a Luger, it was a small pistol with a silencer. I don't recall what kind because I too was watching Sophia. Guess I'm gonna have to watch it again.
