Post Nice 1918 DWM P-08 Spotted...

Had a half day off, so went to some Bay Area gun shops.

I ran across a really nice, 1918 DWM, standard P-08 with original finish at better than 95%, and almost flawless grips with no dings, chips, scratches. Bore looked vg, 9 mm, and all parts matched.

Only flaw was a 1930's style magazine with aluminum bottom and no serial number stamping.

Serial nubmer is # 2122 m.

It was not part of my acquistion plan, but if others out there might be trying to fill out their Imperial P-08 series, this is a nice one.

Price is/was only $ 600.00 !

The luger is at :

Imbert & Smithers, Inc.
1144 El Camino Real
San Carlos, CA
Tele. No. 650-593-4207

Post photos if anyone goes after this luger...

Dear Pete, Imbert & Smithers is just down the streeet from where I live. How lucky you were! I've been there over the years and NEVER saw a P.08 there. They are very nice and once scoped a rifle for me. A much more fruitful source is around the corner from me: Krausewerk Colletibles, 83-B 21st Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403 (Mike Krause) He always has at least 5-6 lugers and even has a rare Norwegian commercial post war P-38 for sale. Of course he also has his hand made jewels (45 cal lugers). Will hope to see you in Reno, I'll be there Saturday only.

Hello Bill,

Glad to be of help. You do owe us some photo postings when you get this 1918 DWM home. I think you will find it may be too nice to shoot...

Hello Herbert,

Yes, this was the only luger they had...just one of those things. When I asked to see the P-08 under the glass, they almost did not know it was there. Their shop is truly a sportsman's shop !!!

And yes, I know Krausewerks well. As a matter of fact, on this same day I bought from Mike and Ted a nice 1913/1920 Erfurt police luger with intact sear and magazine safeties...all matching, orginal grips, original Erfurt finish (pistol interior is still all "white"), unit markings on the front grip strap, and a correct but not matching magazine. Paid $ 775.00 for it. I never saw so many proof marks on so many little parts !

They also have an absolutely stunning, 1900 DWM AE for $4K...a little rich for me but a really lovely gun...

Imbert and Smithers! Gina (the Goddess of Guns) down there is supposed to let me know if any Lugers show up there. I was in there last Mon. and no Luger, I was in there today and no Luger. In fact I was in there paying off on a Colt. In fact the last time I was at this forum I was into Krausewerke paying off on another Colt. Actually Gina usually thinks of me when a nice S&W shows up, same at Krause. A few weeks ago a beautiful artillery passed me by at Imbert's as well. I wouldn't of been able to afford it as I was buying a Colt. The very Gods conspire against me. If you're at Krausewerke's look at the beautiful Sauer and Sohn 1913 in 32. with a holster for sale. If you buy it I can afford another Luger as I put it there on consignment.
